Daily Dose of Sultnpapper 11/24/18> My two cents worth and SBI Saturday in today’s edition

in #dailydose6 years ago

First let me say…

First let me say, I didn’t go anywhere on Black Friday and I am sure glad of that. I can’t say that I saved any money but my wife told me she saved me a bunch of Federal Reserve Notes. She really is the designated shopper for the family and I like it that way. She did try and convince to go to the Black Friday event at that other Palais Royal store over in Tomball, TX on Friday morning but I managed to talk her out of it. I told her that I just wasn’t “feeling” it and it was a little chilly and kind of misty so it didn’t take a lot of convincing to get her to decide not to go.

How much confidence…

How much confidence do you have in steemit.com, not steem the crypto currency, but steemit.com itself? Personally, I don’t have a lot of confidence in the people who are running this show. Let’s not forget the recent guzbucked up HF20, and now this; with all of our accounts making us look like billionaires. For being a billionaire my 100% upvote is still only worth 2 cents, thus when I give an upVote you really are getting my 2 cents worth.

The problem appears…

This problem appears to be only related to steemit.com with not being able to figure out that my account really has a value in USD of just under $300.00. Steemplus doesn’t seem to have any problem figuring it out, since right below that $87 billion valuation that steemit.com says I have; steemplus has the actual value of $292.465. Now, if steemplus can get correct down to the tenth of penny I would expect the people who put this place together to be able to do the same. Is that too much to ask?

I will say that…

I will say that for me there is a silver lining to this massive decline in the value of steem; that is when I purchase shares of SBI for the weekly give away, it doesn’t make much of an impact on the total valuation of my account with prices where they are right now.

Also, since sbd and steem are basically the same price right now on the internal market on steemit.com it makes it easy to figure out just how much SBD I need to win each week in order to fund this weekly giveaway. In fact, I finished second on Friday in the tournament that started at 3:00 PM CST and even though it was only a tournament with 5 SBD as the prize pool, my $1.50 SBD I won is enough to fund this week’s normal amount of shares of SBI.

I took a look…

I took a look at the calendar and the best I can tell this week makes week 30 or 31 of SBI giveaway here at the Daily Dose. I also looked at my account over at SBI and in my ledger there I was showing 148 shares of SBI and last week’s shares hadn’t been added in yet. I never intended to keep this going on this long but thanks to the poker gods I have been able too.

I will tell you, just like I told @enchantedspirit on Friday morning over in the #thesteemengine discord, if I had to fund this from the earnings of the Daily Dose it would have stopped after week one. I can’t even remember what it was that actually prompted me to give away some SBI in the first place but whatever it was; I am glad it did. At least this way I am able to give back to the community something besides my 2 cents worth.

I haven’t given away any SBI lately to the communities I belong to so that will change today. So let’s get on with the Saturday SBI giveaway.

Here we go…

This week the SBI shares go to @thesteemengine, @steemitbloggers , and @spl . Those are the three main communities I belong too. I am also going to throw in a extra community here today; @curie.

The Steem Engine (@thesteemengine) is really home for me here on the steemit.com and I just really am proud and blessed to be a part of that group. I got in on the ground floor over there and if you get a chance at some point in the future to join that group it is a small group of very talented people who really do care about each other.

Right now The Steem Engine isn’t accepting any new members but keep an eye out for the official publication of this group, The Daily Whistle Stops, and see what the members here are producing and when membership opens back up submit an application. Just don’t use me as a reference; it would do more harm than good.

Steemit Bloggers (@steemitbloggers) is the other writing group I belong to on steemit and I am still learning my way around there. They too have a great group of folks and I still haven’t got to meet all of them yet. That group is also very selective in who they accept but they are accepting applications right now, so if you believe you have what it takes to make the cut over there then just click on the steemitbloggers link below and it will take you somewhere where someone can help you and direct you to the membership enrollment process.

The Steem Poker League (@spl) is the only non-writing group I belong too on here and these folks are some great poker players and all round good people. If you enjoy playing poker online then go see them about signing up.

Without them none of this SBI Saturday stuff would be possible. It doesn’t cost to join and there are plenty of free tournaments to play every day. There are some requirements you will have to meet in order to join but the main one is that you have a REP of 35 or over and have been established here on steemit for a while.

Last and certainly not least is @curie , and that group has blessed this old man on various occasions with a nice upVote from their group. They also sponsor the Friday night poker tournament over at the Steem Poker League and have pitched a little sponsorship in over at steemitbloggers to help fund the weekly contests that the group runs.

I might also mention that I have won a few of those Friday night tournaments so I surely appreciate their sponsorship and community involvement. I didn’t fare well in the Curie sponsored game Friday night, finishing in fifth place, one place out of the money, but there is always next time and…
Until next time,
@sultnpapper

Note: Just like always, any person mentioned by name in the Saturday Daily Dose receives a share of SBI even if they aren’t featured; so @enchantedspirit will also receive a share of SBI courtesy of the Daily Dose.

Note: Thanks for reading the Daily Dose.

I consider myself to be an optimist. There is future for crypto and from all other crypto out there, I think steemit has the strongest story behind it, it has people behind it, people like you and many others and there is no telling what great things we can achieve.

I agree that the steem block chain does have plenty of good people but it isn't necessary to use steemit.com to access the steem block chain. I know that I once posted to the block chain using Busy, although I didn't like.
My thing is, steemit.com shouldn't be exhibiting errors that others are able to correct it seems with relative ease. Also that the management doesn't seem to deliver on things in a timely fashion, I thought SMT were already supposed to have been implemented by now. I could be wrong on that but I don't believe I am.
I also believe there is a future for crypto and government fiat needs to go away. Getting people to settle on just what cryptos will be the preferred currencies is a whole another subject.

I have to admit it is a bit depressing seeing that I am almost a dolphin (that was my target when I started this) yet a full 100% upvote from me is currently only worth $0.11 :( But I will keep my funds in Steemit for now.
I love a good game of poker! I wouldn't say I am fantastic at it though haha but I enjoy the game so I might pop along and see if I can figure out how to sign up and have a go! :D

#steemitbloggers

You should join and play and there are some women playing there who are very good and the players are all very respectful of each other.
I didn't have any goal of reaching any level when I got here, I didn't know that those levels even existed.
I just came to have a place to write my Daily Dose.
Thanks for the support.

Well, I left the house yesterday. Twice. Once in the car and once on Connie. Erv and Sam and I went for a walk yesterday morning and I pretty much had to leave for that. We went back to Little Cross Mountain and found Warren the Elephant Tree. The only Elephant Tree on Little Cross Mountain-the last time we were there we passed less than 30' away from him and didn't see him. I promise a full report this week.

The second time I took Connie out for a little gallop to test a new throttle lock (manual cruise control). It works, which should cut my right arm fatigue factor by a huge amount on long rides. I have long considered putting an automotive grade cruise control on but mounting the vacuum tank is problematic the way Connie is built. It's do able but...

My confidence in the current leadership at Steemit Inc. is pretty much non existent. I could go on about the reasons, but I think if Steemit had a living CEO life would be better. We never see or hear from him but whenever he does speak in public Steem takes a shit.

For the record, SteemWorld has had the valuation right the whole time also. Probably the only thing that kept me from ordering a Mercedes 6x6 camper. :)

Nice choices on the SBI Initiate. I might have to give Steembloggers a look see. I'm kinda sorta a blogger and there are more than a few I admire that fly that logo. You included.

I hope you have a pleasant Saturday. I'm sure I will....

I guess the Black Friday traffic isn't that congested in the desert so you probably didn't have to battle any traffic going for the walk.
I would be curios how that manual cruise control setup works. It looks like you use every inch of available space on Connie so mounting a vacuum tank would be problematic most likely.
You should check out steemitbloggers I think you would have no problem getting accepted into the group.
I intend to have a great Saturday, the wife and I are headed for a late breakfast at Denny's for pumpkin pancakes. So I have to run now. Sitting as of the moment on 59.99 so maybe today will be the day I hit 60.

Glad you didn't get roped into the black friday gig. After seeing the mobs on the tv (which I don't regularly watch) I really wonder why one would want to fight those types of crowds. People were actually fighting over what looked like leopard print blankets! Crazy stuff. Hope Ms. Sultnpapper was able to find some goodies. You are so kind t donate SBI to those groups.....they are good communities and I too have been blessed with a few upvotes...so thankful! Enjoy your Saturday @sultnpapper

Thanks Birdie. The Mrs. managed to get me a couple pairs of the cheap work jeans I wanted and a big package of work socks so I am a happy camper. She also managed to knock out a good portion of her Christmas shopping list so she was satisfied too.
With the price of steem so low right now it is a good time for everyone to consider donating a few shares to their favorite groups, when the prices turn around and go up it gets harder to turn loose of steem for most people.
You enjoy your Saturday too and thanks for your support. I appreciate it very much.

Congratulations! This post has been chosen as one of the daily Whistle Stops for The STEEM Engine!

You can see your post's place along the track here: The Daily Whistle Stops, Issue 321 (11/24/18)

I'd say I've only ever known the steem price AND the whole crypto market to go one way since I got involved in January... and that's down HAHA! Bad luck charm or what :D

But in seriousness, I think there's a strong community/communities here on the platform and it won't go anywhere. There are people who want to make it work and we all have the power to vote for the witnesses that we want to have a say.

I can't speak for the whole leadership thing as I struggle to keep up with a lot of what goes on here (plus I'm involved with multiple communities and platforms being a musician). I am just grateful to have a place where people actually interact with each other unlike FakeBook - have made more "real" connections on here than anywhere else.

Poker... ooph I used to play so regularly but had an amount I was will to spend on games and that ran out so I've stopped playing since. I won't be playing again regularly but it is good fun. I was never any good and only played in the ultra low stakes haha

Well, obviously Nick you are the whole damn problem so I guess we just need you to get the hell out of steemit and crypto in general, things were just fine before you got here.( just fooling :) )
Yes, it has been a steady decline in 2018 and for me it never has been about the crypto, the truth is all I wanted was access to the block chain to write my Daily Dose on, so it would be a permanent record of my thoughts on different subjects so that at some point in the future my future grand kids could have a chance to find them and read them.
I have come to believe in crypto and even though the prices are close to 90% down from where it was at the high point of my time on here I don't see a reason it can't rebound.
You should come play poker over at the Steem Poker League, it really isn't gambling since it doesn't cost anything to play. Besides, you will never get better at it if you don't play and who knows, it may turn out that you get good over time and start winning some crypto.
Thanks for dropping by and supporting the Daily Dose, very much appreciated.

Haha I think rather than being a whale, I have been a vacuum and sucked all the value out of Cryptocurrency this year 😂

Joking aside, I am with you there, it's great to have a place where memories can be irrefutably stored and accessed for years to come and it's very noble of you to do that for your grandchildren.

I think crypto does have a future for sure but there have been so many projects that popped up, not all of them will last in a few years and funnily enough, I was invited to join a few projects, one of which shut down within a week or me being there. So I will just do my own thing with it and never invest time or money into projects because it seems I do just catastrophically mess them up 😂

If it's just play money with the poker then that could sway me but in the meantime it's projects galore!

Catch you later 😁

Well, if crypto is play money then it is play money over at the poker games. The good part is you risk nothing as there are plenty of games that have no entry fee but do pay SBD if you finish in the money, so you have nothing to lose and crypto to gain.

Well that sounds like a good deal! Once I complete a few music and blog projects that need completing, I will have a look in to that 🙂 thanks for the Intel.
