Daily Dose of Sultnpapper 09/24/18> Is Austin, Texas becoming the hub of block chain social media?
It hit me Sunday evening while visiting with the wife outside taking in the evening air, Austin, Texas is home to both Steemit and WeKu and it so it begs the question of are they intertwined and we just don’t know it?
Either way Austin is becoming a social media block chain hub it seems.
I could see both sides of this on how they could be and how they couldn’t be so I really can’t say one way or another. Anyway, just something that came to mind, while sitting outside.
I would like to get the addresses for the offices of both these platforms just to see how close these companies are located to each other, hell, it would be really something if they were in the same office building wouldn’t it? If anyone happens to have the addresses please send them on or reply with them, I go to Austin, Texas at least once a month and I might just stop in and say “thank you” for their creations.
After coming in from outside I decided to get started on taking care of some computer stuff and so I opted for the couch in the front room I flipped on the light switch and not only did the light come on but so did the TV. I haven’t watch anything on TV in a while but I did see that “Big Brother” is still on the tube, I guess I really can’t call it the tube anymore since televisions haven’t had tubes in the since probably the early 80’s but regardless of not having tubes I will probably still continue to call it the tube as long as I am alive.
If the remote had been handy I would have turned it off right away but since it wasn’t I let it play for a little bit. Is it me or is it just my imagination that the TV commercials seem to be more frequent now and seem to last longer?
It is also the time when the politicians have their TV advertising campaigns kicking in to gear, I checked and we are 42 days away from that day we vote in the midterm elections.
I had left the TV on long enough to see three different TV commercial breaks each break had at least two political advertisements in them. I honestly think that the only folks who actually win during the elections are the TV & radio stations. We sure as hell don’t win even if the person we vote for gets elected since they ultimately will be corrupted and lose any integrity if they had any to even start with.
The other thing I noticed is the form of the advertising, we don’t vote for politicians based on their merits and what they will do when elected because they don’t tell you what they are about or what their vision is for whatever office they are running for, that isn’t how it is done anymore.
I can’t remember back that far when politicians actually ran a positive campaign instead of the name calling and exposing of dirty little secrets on their opponents. Now we elect folks based on who we distrust the least for the most part.
This year I won’t vote party lines, I won’t vote for the best liar either: I will be voting for the challenger in all races that involve an incumbent holding the office. Plain and simple; it may not make sense to you but it does to me. It may not get the challenger elected but the closer the margin of victory becomes for an incumbent it might just get their attention that people are becoming unhappy with their performance and the next time they might just get defeated if their don’t mind their P’s and Q’s.
Be sure to get your plan of action together for voting this year and be sure to vote.
Until next time,
@sultnpapper

Congratulations! This post has been chosen as one of the daily Whistle Stops for The STEEM Engine!
You can see your post's place along the track here: The Daily Whistle Stops, Issue 267 (9/25/18)
I dunno. Austin is getting a reputation as a Silicon Valley type of place without as many assholes. Least that's how I hear it :)
Advertising and Politics? Politics and Advertising? Eeeeekkk. I've just about given up on TV, except for watching my favorite teams lose.
So your electoral system would be in trouble here. We have an open Senate seat and will have another in 2019 (McCain's seat) I'm probably going to vote for the lawyer who defended murderers and rapists and is soft on immigration as opposed to the war monger who would execute every illegal caught and throw their bodies back across the 100 foot high wall with a catapult. It's just a choice I have to make.
We do have a relatively unique version of 'liar liar, pants on fire'. A representative in another congressional district has all 6 of his siblings campaigning against him. They are all on TV telling people how awful he is. His reply? "See all you weenies at Mom and Dad's for Thanksgiving."
Jeeze. Too much, too often. I'll be voting mostly a straight ticket the same as you. Incumbents out would be my motto. I do have 3 choices in my State Senator seat, with no incumbent, though the incumbent IS on the ballot. He got himself adiosed by the Senate this year for sexual harassment so is running as a 3rd party candidate.
Now that I think of it, politics in Arizona is a sport. I back an incredible percentage of losers there too.
Yes, mine may look like a straight party ticket only not the party I voted in the primary elections where I threw my vote to the republican challenger of the incumbents, those incumbents won't be getting the vote, we have one guy for congress that was running for a seat opened up by Ted Poe retiring, he will get my vote. The rest are SOL when it comes to my vote.
War mongers don't deserve even a sniff of my vote, glad you see that the same way. The Texans football team is 0-3 and if I were a football fan I would be backing a loser because I route for the home town teams, but since those players made a big stink about the National anthem they don't mean jack squat to me or my Sunday afternoons any longer.
At some point in time maybe people will wake up and take Texas back as a Republic again and then I can lay off the politics, in the mean time though I guess I will have to keep ringing the bell every so often.
Reminds me of why I don't even watch TV. Last time I did, I could feel my brain cells committing suicide...
Really, the commercials are stupid, and seem to be geared to stupid people. The shows are about the same. Im not shocked that there are more commercials than there used to have been. Blech.
Good message though, do reasearch, people, and get out and vote!
I think all politicians are cut from the same cloth. I am so fed up with politics and political games for the gains of the person holding the office. I don't listen to the news anymore or even read much, just enough to have an idea what is happening. Usually, if it is important enough someone will notify me. I am in process of trying to piece together a post today that will give a good taste of what is going on here and why I really don't want to hear any more.
We don't even have a TV in the house anymore. Even if you wanted to watch say a sitcom, the 30-minute program would actually be 15 minutes because the rest is made up of commercials for things you really don't want or need in your life or they are mud-slinging propaganda for the latest toad running for public office. Sorry if this offends anyone's sensibilities but this Monday morning started off on the wrong foot...
No I think you are good, I looked and I don't see any hands up on being offended, so carry on Mam.
Thanks, @sultnpapper!
FOR TSE:
It is definitely not your imagination!! They come on more often and drone on forever. I kid you not, I have made entire meals by just going out to the kitchen and working in the commercials. And I don't mean macaroni-and-cheese-dust stuff either. I mean entrees with salad, vegetables and sometimes dessert.
But we've basically stopped watching broadcast TV. We wait and binge watch a whole series on Netflix. If it weren't for the Netflix type services, we'd probably put the TV out for the trashman to haul off. As it is, we go for days without it being on once.
If the TV hadn't come on with light switch I never would have seen it. I don't watch TV any more I gave up on it a few years ago. But I don't doubt a word you are saying about the amount and time of the commercials.
FOR TSE: Have you also noticed how many ads are for drugs?? One night -- one of the last nights I bothered watching one of the Big Three nightly news shows -- every single commercial was an ad for some kind of drug.
Why aren't more people asking ... "Why are we all so damn sick???"
You know I have my own answers for that ... but as you sometimes say here in the Daily Dose ... more people need to wake the guzbuck up!!!
That is a very good question to ask, everything we eat and drink is "safe" according to our government and also all the vaccinations that kids have before they can walk are "safe" too. So it must be that we just over indulge on all the safe things and then breath the shit air that we have polluted, yes, I am pretty sure that has to be the reason.
Turns out the TV ads are longer and more frequent than back in the day, fully one third of each hour is commercials on the Tube.
I was searching for Steemit inc after reading your post. Seems like they don't want to be found. They are not listed on Google maps, and searching posts about the company in Austin also netted me no address. I am normally pretty good at finding this information, I guess I just need to focus more time on it if that's what I really want to do. What I did find is that the state has a huge fund which is meant to entice tech companies to the state. They hand out cash to draw in investors, seems to be working.
I grew up east of Austin in Bastrop county. I miss the Lone Star State, living in the Northwest is quite a contrast. I love the liberties I have here, Texas seems restrictive by comparison.
Yes they have a big fund to "pay off " companies to move here and it seems like all of them land in Austin with their hands out looking for the cash. Like Google needs money, but they sure have gotten some.
It would be a good program if they had the businesses spread out around the state instead of Austin where they don't have the roads to support the the influx of people, that place is a nightmare at peak travel times.
Well, I wanted to help in your sleuthing, but dang it's hard. Here's the only lead I've got:
Unihorn Labs, LLC
600 Congress Avenue Floor 14
Austin, TX 78701
I appreciate that, it is more than I have at the moment. Thanks.
I appreciate
That, it is more than I have
At the moment. Thanks.

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.
I haven't had a TV since 2012, and I don't miss it! I think the ads were getting to be more interesting than the programmes!
And I no longer vote, except in local government elections. I think it's a great strategy to vote for the challenger. Where I live, party politics is so tribal, with some constituencies having had the same political party returned since records began! You can imagine the corruption, the nepotism... it's unbelieveable. One of the reasons I don't vote in national elections any more is that the actual political system is SO corrupt that I refuse to give it my consent. Instead, I go into the polling booth and destroy my ballot paper.
It is corrupt in every country with a central bank, and probably more but that destroying the ballot is a novel idea, there are people here that write on the ballot, "none of the above" and put a check mark by that box they drew.
I might change my name to Mr. None Ofthe Above and run for office , I wouldn't have to campaign at all , people would see that option of None of the Above and vote it for sure.
You make me laugh! Mr None of the Above - haha. Good idea.
sir sultnpapper! yes sir there are more commercials than ever and more stupid commercials than ever and more lame, boring shows than ever! lol. then around election time there is an overload of idiotic political ads! It's enough to make you never watch "the tube" again!
I am not a TV guy any longer and had the kids turned it off like they are supposed to I would have never seen that, I just don't watch TV any more.
howdy again sir sultnpapper! yes sir well I think that it's a big waste of time for the most part and the older I get the more I hate wasting any time at all!
