Running my Dadi Founding NodesteemCreated with Sketch.

in #dadi6 years ago

Hello everyone! Three months ago, I was told that I am the winner of Dadi's Founding Node lottery. There are only 300 of them so, being among the lucky few, I am quite excited. A few days back, I finally received my Dadi's Founding Node and setting it up was quite a breeze!

What is Dadi?

Dadi is a project working on decentralized cloud services. Imagine AWS or Azure built in a decentralized manner. Instead of hosting cloud services on a few centralized data centers, Dadi aims to spread the network nodes across the globe in a decentralized manner.

This is a technically daunting task. It is difficult to coordinate so many nodes all over the world to provide reliable and consistent cloud services. So if Dadi is able to build a decentralized cloud service, it will be a remarkable feat. A decentralized cloud service will be more resilient and, in theory, able to increase performance and efficiency for the users.

Currently, Dadi's CDN (Content Delivery Network) service is already live. Many other services are in the pipeline and scheduled for delivery in 2019.

Unboxing the Dadi Founding Node

As mentioned, my Founding Node arrived a few days back. So Christmas came a little earlier for me 😁. The node is nicely packed in a cylinder-shaped box.

There are a few components in the box. The main node is a Raspberry Pi 3 and it is beautifully fitted into a glass and silicone container. A power adaptor and LAN cable are also provided. The images I took do not do justice to how beautiful and minimalistic the device is, you should really take a look at the Founding Node Programme page to see some better pictures.

And by simply connecting the power and the LAN cables, my node is up and running!

Conclusion

Dadi is a really ambitious project which is aiming to decentralize cloud services. By doing so, node owners will be able to contribute a small amount of their computing capacity and make some money out of it. Of course, just like any utility tokens, we have to believe that the tokens will have they utility as claimed in the whitepaper. So far, the project team was able to reinforce those claims with their developments.

I am quite optimistic that the project will be a success and I am glad to be playing a small part by running a node. 2019 will be a big year for Dadi if they are able to deliver the milestones on their roadmap.

That is so dope I thought dadi was dead but seen your post shows me there well and alive. That node setup looks cool I’m wondering how much is it to setup a node if you didn’t win? And off that rig how much can you make for running a dadi node? I think when a lot more projects have there mainnet nodes and staking will be huge brother. 🙏

The rewards from staking is still unclear. A raspberry pi is enough to run a node, hence I guess the setup and recurring cost should be rather low

Nothing to configure ? Just power up the rasp pi ? How does the node know it is you running it.

Each founding node is preconfigured with an ID. So you just power up, plug in the LAN cable and it will be able to detect I am running it

So you are already registered somewhere with an ID

Yup. I had to register an account with them and the device is tagged to my account

That’s dope dude does that device for running a node come for other Blockchain or is that exclusively for dadi? I’m guessing they haven’t really told you the staking details when will you know have they said?
