U.s.s. cyclops

The USS Cyclops (AC-4) was a U.S. Navy collier launched in 1910 and commissioned in 1917. As part of the Proteus-class of colliers, it was primarily used to transport coal for naval ships. Measuring 542 feet long and displacing over 19,000 tons when fully loaded, Cyclops was one of the Navy's largest fuel ships.

In March 1918, the Cyclops embarked on a voyage from Rio de Janeiro to Baltimore, carrying a cargo of manganese ore. After a stop in Barbados, it was reported missing. No distress signals were sent, and an extensive search found no trace of the ship or its 309 crew members and passengers. The disappearance of the Cyclops remains one of the greatest maritime mysteries and is often associated with the Bermuda Triangle lore.

Theories about its disappearance range from structural failure to enemy action during World War I, though no conclusive evidence has ever been found. The mystery of the USS Cyclops continues to intrigue historians and maritime enthusiasts to this day.
