I have for some days stayed in a place that always make English speaking people laugh. It is called Middelfart meaning... halfway on the travel. I am here with my youngest daughter so she can enjoy the bliss of grandparents and rural cousins. The small city is framed by two bridges the new and the old Lillebælt Bridge - both crossing the narrow belt called Little Belt - the westernmost of the three belts that run south-north between Kattegat and the Baltic sea.

Today I went for a bike trip under the new bridge and out to the old ferry landing, Strib - a small village now filled with expensive houses. The following pictures are from the trip, which was about 12 km.
Under the new bridge. It was built in 1970 as a motorway bridge. the old bridge is for pedestrians, cyclists, cars and train.
There's a nice bike path.
The citizens of Strib have invested in a sculpture made by Prins Henrik, the queen's husband. The bland modernism gains very much from the royal monogram at the base.

Denmark is basically a realm of islands. We are never more than 50 km from the sea.
Going back the same way
Both bridges. I might go the other way tomorrow into the forest surrounding the old bridge. It is a mountain-bike after all.

Do they have a little street sweeper machine for the bike way?
Or, on some days, you are peddling along, and blam, there is this big, sucking, swirling machine heading right at you?
Not sure how good the sweeping is out here, but in Copenhagen the bicycle lanes are just as well kept as the roads also with snow in the winter. And they do have small machines that fit the bicycle tracks :)
