Trust is a scarce resource

in #cybernetics7 years ago (edited)

What limits the cognitive capacity of our species is our capacity for trust, which is very low. Trust is a scarce resource, which is reflected in how other resources are managed. The tendency to distrust forms a sort of vacuum, where memes fail to make connections, and that causes phenomena like thought systems based on binary opposition, or ideology and religion which signal certain traits to be able to filter out certain others.

With extra-cerebral trust, like nation-states and blockchains, our cognition increases, moving towards what @BitNation conceptualises as "Lucy", hybrid cognition with the exocortex. As Gavin Wood says, the use of one-way function cryptography, together with linking state transitions through hash signatures to easily verify the integrity of a state, produces a commodity that approximates trust, and increases the availability of trust as a resource

The one way function offloads authentication of what to trust onto technology

"In the future, trusting an institution with our interests, will be as archaic a concept as reckoning on an abacus is today"
-Gavin Wood, 2016

The increase in cortical volume in the human brain is largest in the frontal lobe, which I describe as a "trust organ", that regulates the memetic cortex. If that trend were to continue, then the capacity to authenticate what to trust would naturally be offloaded onto technology, similar to how other organs have been augmented with technology, McLuhans' notion of types of extensions of the human organism in cybernetics, bodily extensions, cognitive extensions, and when it comes to trust, social extensions.

The one-way function provides that, or, is a candidate that could provide nearly infinite trust using mathematical norms.

that video was really an interesting thing i have watched today :)

brilliant talk

Excellent video got to learn a lot from this post along and the video was remarkably great !!

Really one of the best and informative video..... It is rightly said that money can't judge a value of a writer same is with this you surely deserve more good response.... Loved it keep steeming!!

I really liked your content @johan-nygren it's just steem that that can provide you so much knowledge and this is possible because of you fella...... I wish you all the best steem on !!

Oh man seems like block chain is all set for the revolutionary path braking achievement

Blockchains are the first version, the next generation is BitLattice, that has a larger surface area than a blockchain and can add transactions in parallel. Similar ideas to increase the surface area were talked about with "Ethereum 2.0" back in 2014, and Hibryda has generalized that, and is using a new topology. BitLattice uses "proof-of-structure" and wave functions to verify the integrity of the state across shards.
