Culprit Arrested For Creating Ransomware – 14-Year-Old Japanese Boy

Recently, a 14-year-old boy in Osaka, a large port city, has been detained by Japanese authorities. The boy has been arrested for creating ransom malware.

There has been no such arrest earlier in Japan, and this is the first such arrest is related to Ransomware-related crime.

Ransomware is malicious ware that will encrypt files on a victim’s computer stopping the victim from access until a ransom is paid in Bitcoins by the victim. Once the ransom is paid, the victim can get the decryption keys for the encrypted files.

Ransomware was found a few years back, but at the moment ransomware is becoming a significant cyber threat for all users across the world and business companies.

It was in the last month that the WannaCry ransomware affected over 300,000 PCs. Within 72 hours, a great disaster was done worldwide.

The multiple Japanese media stated that recently a teenager from third-year junior high school was arrested for creating a ransomware virus. The teenager had uploaded its source code on the Internet.

The student, who admitted the accusation, had used free encryption software to progress his ransomware infection. He had then, uploaded it to a foreign website teaching people to download and use it, spreading further for financial gain.

The teen also announced through sources of social media, including Twitter, his finding “I have made ransomware. Please do feel free to use it,” the sources declared.

The Japanese police described, that the teen’s ransomware infected victims’ computers when downloaded, payments had been demanded in the digital currency. Over 100 times, his ransomware framework had been downloaded.

The student had just taken about three days to create the ransomware program on his personal computer stated authorities though they have not revealed the identity of the teenager.

The teen had learned to code on his own. The purpose of creating, as he had told authorities was out of curiosity and to become famous.

The ransomware had been spotted by the Japanese police while “cyber patrolling” in January and had taken the teen’s computer in April after searching his house.
