Rantings of a Mad Customer Service Agent - episode 1
Since I am just starting out on Steemit, I feel I should give a little bit of background on this. I have 'officially' been working for 32 years now. I have only had 2 job where I have not dealt with the public directly whether front facing or on the phone. I see hundreds of posts of people blasting the agent, etc helping them, but I don't see much on the other end (in public forums) anyway. With all of the stories I could tell. It might actually make a decent book like 'Shit My Dad Says.'
So what better place to share the 'otherside' laugh and relieve stress while we're at it.
I think most of us have seen this video or something similar
It's a bit over dramatized to get the laugh, but a good portion of it is spot on.
Currently I am working as a reservation agent for a taxi company. Yeah I said. Just when you think you can't sink lower in customer service, you find a new low. As I mentioned in my introduction.... I have PTSD, General and Social Anxiety Disorder and Major Depression (Bipolar I) After 32 yrs in customer service I'm surprised that there isn't more LOL.
I really do take most things with a grain of salt and move on. It's hard to stay postive when the world is seemingling stuck out of control on negativity. So how do you get through it?? HUMOR!! If you can't laugh, then it's time to walk away.
My shift last night is typical. I start off with answering the phone and the person on the other end of the phone screaming , yelling and cussing (Oh I didn't mention....the BEST perk at this job, I CAN hangup on people) about her cab taking too long. It had been 10 minutes. With a huge smile on my face said "That's great, I'll get that cancelled for you. Have a nice night.' then hung up. I think she dropped the F bomb 6 times in her 20 second tirade. My next call was someone who was too into the conversation they were having to even acknowledge they had made a phone call. 'Click' I'm not there to wait for you to decide you want to have a conversation with me. I get about 10 of each of those calls a night.
My favorite from the night was a semi-regular customer "I don't get paid until the 1st and I don't have any money. Can I still get a ride?" The response in my head was "This is not Wimpy's Taxi service!! where you can gladly pay me Tuesday for a taxi ride today" REALLY!! He went on to say 'I won't run, I promise to pay.' So playing along, "When do you plan on paying?" "I get my SSI on the 1st I'll come pay sometime after that." 'Sorry, if you cannot pay for your ride today we cannot take you.' "I'm not a criminal" 'I didn't say that, I said if you cannot pay today, you cannot ride today. It is not right to ask the driver not to be paid for their time.' "FU your F'n C a decent person would help a bro out." 'A decent person would pay the driver for services delievered. You have a nice night.' As I was hanging up all sorts of colorful metaphors were being spewed at me.
Lesson: People will always put you down when they don't get their way. You can't change that and you cannot fix that. What you can do is shake your head and move on. Your inner mantra becomes 'It's them, not me.'
Since I am still really new to this...feedback PLEASE!!
