DOES EATING HUMAN MEAT MAKE BAD FOR HEALTH?

Human flesh has practically become an element of pop culture. It is not uncommon to see movies and series with zombies that feed on the bodies of people.

There are also real cases of cannibalism throughout our history. Whether in cultural situations, among indigenous tribes, or as part of crimes, already in our society.

But, after all, does eating human flesh hurt?  What is already known about the matter of our body?

Kuru  There are no longer so many indigenous tribes that consume human flesh. Korowai, Papua New Guinea, is the latest cannibal known around the world.  Members of many tribes practicing cannibalism as rituals began to die en masse. The reason was a disease called kuru - a kind of mad cow disease, only human flesh.  Kuru, originally called the Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, affects the brain and nervous system if human flesh is infected with a protein called a prion. Evil causes brain deterioration, loss of motor control, and eventually death.

Other problems

Even if you do not die of a disease coming from the prion, mass consumption of the human anatomy does not do well for the body. There are other problems that can be triggered from this practice.

An autopsy on Tarrate, a famous French cannibal of the 18th century, after his death, found that his body was full of pus. In addition, ulcers, stomach, liver, and gall bladder were abnormally large.

What if it was the only option?

Let us assume that the world's population grows so that the existing demand for beef, pork and poultry is not enough. It happens this way in some zombie movies.  If you really needed to eat human flesh, your brain and muscles would probably be the best bet. Who says this is nutritionist Dr. Jim Stoppani, from Yale.  The muscles would offer protein and the brain would provide slow burning energy, since it is high in fat and glucose. However, the brain mass presents an additional risk, since it is the part of the body with the highest prion concentration, which gives rise to kuru disease.  Organs like liver and kidneys are full of food waste as they work with the filtration in the body. It would be best to avoid.  The eyes contain an acid solution capable of sickening humans. Already the fingers and toes are full of cartilage not digested by the body. The penis, in turn, is spongy and has little nutritional value.  In the end, human flesh is not worth eating. Better to leave there.
