Discovering the chestnut trees of Monte Monfera - Italy
A few days ago I visited the chestnut woods of Monte Monfenera, in the province of Treviso, in northern Italy.
This is a place I only recently discovered.
There are ancient chestnut trees that left me stunned.
On the ground there was a sea of dry leaves, the whole environment recalled the red and brown tones of autumn.
Ho saputo che la coltivazione dei marroni del Monfenera risale al periodo medievale, documentata da un atto del 1351 che ne regolava la raccolta tra i capifamiglia. Gran parte del prodotto veniva trasportato fino a Venezia.
Over the centuries there have been periods of abandonment of chestnut woods alternating with phases of assiduous use of the forest as a resource for the supply of firewood, for the production of fruits for human and animal food and for obtaining wood for industrial uses.
Since 1980 about the cultivation of the chestnut tree is recovering throughout the territory thanks above all to the realization of numerous events that have the objective of promoting the cultivation of chestnut, for the improvement of the environment and the woods, and to enhance the fruits and numerous derivative products.
I hope you enjoyed this visit to the woods of the monfenera.
Thanks for visiting! I wish you all a good 2019 !!
Wow, beautiful! How old are those trees?
I think the plants I saw are from 80 to 120 years old :)
