Reflections on My First Few Days Curating for Steem’s OCD Magazine

in #curation7 years ago

OCD = Operation Curation Delegation. It is the brainchild of @acidyo, steem curator extraordinaire, where the goal is to support undervalued posts by promising new steemians.

business face.

We want to help reward the great content that is being posted here. It’s hard for users to spend a lot of time every day tracking down the best posts. That’s why there are 35 curators working with OCD to find all the good shit and give it upvotes.

I joined OCD because my goal is to build the music community of steem. They brought me on to help identify and promote great music on our platform.

How OCD Works

OCD is a simple system. We all have a discord channel (curators only) where we discuss posts. We find and share links each day. At the end of the day, there is a “voting period” where all the curators vote for the best posts.

The top 10 posts each day get included in the OCD Daily Magazine post. They get upvotes and additional exposure through the magazine.

I’m working hard to support music posts. When there isn’t a lot of music popping on the steem platform, I move to related fields: Books, visual art, philosophy. My main goal is to support genuinely enjoyable content - would I want to read/watch/hear this on my day off? If so, it gets a nomination.

Moving Forward With OCD

The biggest progress that can happen is to bring more new users onto the platform. Honestly, there aren’t enough great posts for me to use all my curation powers right now. Between OCD and my position as music sub-curator for @curie, I need more posts to support!

Between Curie and OCD, I could connect musicians with 10+ $20 upvotes per day…

Right now though the problem is, we can usually only find 4-5 great music posts per day that aren’t already getting votes. This is cool - lots of content is being supported - but it makes me hungry for even more great content.

Next Steps

Hopefully the Raleigh Steem Project, which launches soon, will help with that. As more musicians enter this ecosystem, it shouldn’t be hard to find great content every day to engage with and support.

Once I can reliably find and reward 10 great music posts per day… then I’ll be pretty happy. Until then, there is work to be done.

Sort:

One of the things I really appreciate about @ocd is that the daily post is always filled with really good stuff and that saves me a ton of time, in terms of wading through oceans of posts to get to the gold nuggets. Usually, my standby approach is to look at what some of my "most trusted" content creators I follow are resteeming... but that's not always reliable, is it's often posts by very established Steemians.

I think Steemit is a great platform to lend a helping hand to musicians, artists, writers and other creatives... people who are already in fields where it can be super hard to get much "traction," in the first place. I'm sure those musicians can really USE that $20 upvote... that'll make it possible for them to spend two more hours working, rather than two more hours schlepping food trays at some restaurant.

I'm so glad that you get that value out of OCD. With steemit getting busier and busier by the day, I suppose it really is helpful to have resources like it which can help people find quality content.

I'll share your words with the OCD team in discord - they'll be happy to hear it. :-)

Happy to have you here with us curating in @OCD!

Would love to get involved in this from a photography standpoint. I would like to start seeing more quality photography blogging on here, with people laying down stories behind what they did to take photos, how they approached them etc. It's hard to find photography that leads towards more "fine art" photography and theres a lot of plagiarism and copying from stock sites, but i do follow some very talented togs who struggle to get rewarded.

Photography is tricky... when it's done well, it's one of the great art forms. However for obvious reasons it's easy for people to shitpost and or plagiarize.

If you have any authors in mind who I should keep an eye on - I'm open to submitting photography content for the OCD curation. Hit me up on steem chat!

Have dropped you a message on chat.

Welcome to the community bro. This helped a lot for me and I read a lot of posts that just kept referring me back here https://steemit.com/faq.html Its a lot to take in all at once but it slowly starts to sink in. In that link you'll find all the questions you're probably asking. Good luck on your journey I have upvoted and followed

Hey I don't think that makes much sense based on what I posted. I don't have any questions relating to the FAQ.

@kemalbds, I think it would be wise of you to STOP copying and pasting the same comment over and over to different posts... which just goes to show you didn't even take the time to READ those posts. That is NOT how to succeed on Steemit... create your own original content and take the time to ENGAGE with other people about theirs...

We got plenty of quality music created by Steemians in the weekly #beatbattle and #smlchallenge . Usually have between 6-11 entries for each contest every week. Enjoy :)

God bless

Namaste

Cool concept.

Good that there are people helping others on here.

Great work; I have musicians friends who are asking about steemit. It would be nice to have a real profitable platform for musicians someday outside the mainstream music industry.

It IS nice to have a profitable platform! I think we are already experiencing it on a small level. For me at least steem is a HUGE help regarding me earning enough money to survive :-)

If any of your friends sign up, let me know! I'll be happy to check out their content.
