If when clicking on a 'tag' it went to 'new' by default rather than 'trending' it could encoruage more discovery into new content.

Also, wondering why are we allowed to vote on our own content & comments to begin with? Have the effects of removing self-voting been discussed by devs? Would it help with this voting imbalance if we could only vote on other users content?

I'm only a week old minnow and trying to understand the right way to navigate the site and post, vote in a way that improves quality (original content particularly in the Art / Drawing tags). I'd like to see less spammers and scammers skimming votes in those categories.

There's an important benefit to self-voting - advertisers can power up Steem and promote their own posts. That'll be an important source of revenue for Steem going forward.
