Please note -- I will have limited internet access for awhile -- so PLEASE do not be upset that I cannot reply right away, or to everyone. I am dealing with some changes, and will have limited time online and will be happy if I get a few blog posts up a week.
This has really upset some people but I do not force my opinions on others, or need to communicate every detail of my life or issues, most people do not care anyways. I invested around 10 hours or more a day on Steemit most of my first 13 mths here, I just do not have that time in my life right now, and that includes for replies and voting/curation.

I had no idea that "HODL" was coined in 2013; I thought it was older.
I sure help the fellow who coined it took his own advice. Myself, I'm HODLing what I've got.
Pedantic sidenote: at Bitcointalk, someone chided me for saying I was HODLing cons in an exchange wallet. To HODL, you have to have 'em in your own personal wallet. Preferable full-node. :)

I sold my EOS right at the peak around $18. I bought back in at $16 thinking it was going to bounce up to $20 before falling down. Nope. It's currently around $10 :/ The HODL life is not a fun life, but a necessary one. Stay strong Steemit brothers and sisters.
You were on the right track, you still did well and had the guts to take that trade looking for good exits and onramps back in. Less the fees of course, which nobody ever talks about.
