Cypress Hedge.
This Cypress ( Cupressus macrocarpa ) hedge - a type of Conifer - has been planted outside an apartment block to provide privacy for residents from the street frontage. Not only this, the hedge also acts as an insulation barrier to the hot Westerly sun which hits the unit block in Summer. Cypress trees are often large trees, depending on the species, and are useful in gardens. The only drawback of these trees is that the pine needles that drop from the trees do taint the soil surrounding the tree so that it will be difficult to grow too much around the base of the trees. So keep this in mind when choosing to plant coniferous plants in your garden. Conifers will grow well in all but the hottest and most humid places. They are well suited to Sydney where this shot was taken.

they act as a great live wall and when well taken care of and trimmed they act as beauty fence
They avoided to build a wall by placing a natural wall :)
