In my Chinese-born oriented family culture, the young ones must greet everyone's salutation before everyone can start their meal. I used to say "Bon Appetit" back then just to draw everyone's attention, simple enough.
But now I love to say the word "ITADAKIMASU" especially when I am in Japanese restaurant.
