CASTE SYSTEM IN NEPAL
Caste is closely related with the Hindu philosophy and religion,tradition and custom .It is believed to have divine origin. It is deeply rooted social problem in nepal. There are more than 2800 castes and sub-castes with all their peculiarities. caste is a spanish word. caste signifies race or kind , also a type. caste is varna which means colour in sanskrit.. According to the Hindu, society was divided into four main varnas - Brahmins, Kashtriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras.The Varna system was prevailed during the Vedic period and was mainly based on division of labour and occupation.
caste is the collection of families bearing a common name claiming a common mythical ancestor professing to follow the same hereditary.. Every caste is further divided into sub castes which are the units of endogamy whosefamily members follow the same occupation, social and ritual life and common culture and whose family members are governed by the same authoritative body viz the panchayat.
bramhins are so called the top class caste. and the caste goes on decreasing . the caste system are calssified according to the occupation they follow . untouchable are so called lowest caste people.
the untouchable castes are still available in countries like nepal and india . these so called untouchable people arent allowed to drink water from common tap , enter the temple. the food or water touched by these so called un touchable arent eaten by so called higher class people. this system is still prevailed in nepal and india.
