RE: The Hero with a Thousand Faces: a monomyth

in #culture6 years ago

I've been a big long time Joseph Campbell fan, he has such a beautiful understanding of the journey of being human! The heroes journey stories in media, literature are always so engaging (just look at the success of star wars over 4 decades!) but today what this post brings to mind is the way that this very hero's journey and its 12 steps are mirrored even in the small challenges in our lives. We go through our own versions of this transformation in order to become more self-actualized with every day of our lives as we face the trials and tribulations, successes and failures of life.
Beautiful post!

Oh hey, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read (as always!). I completely agree with you that the Hero’s Journey is mirrored in our personal lives on a micro-level time and again. You know I once facilitated a theatre project with homeless youth in which we asked them to identify a Hero’s Journey within their own experience and then share it as a form of empowered storytelling to flip the script on how folks usually identify these teens. It was really interesting to see how they each adapted the structure to fit their story.

what a great project to do with homeless teens especially who probably didnt realize what heroes they are!!
