My culture,My heritage: Culture and people
My topic today will be on culture and its heritage but before i get to the definition or dictionary meaning, i will like us to know that the word "culture" is derived from a Latin word "Cultura" which simply means to "cultivate"
It can be said to be the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society or can be said to be the social behavior and norms found in man societies.
Dressing culture:
Culture can be found in the type of costume worn by a particular tribe which will describe who they are, like in Nigeria.
We have the hausas, Igbos and the yorubas but citing the tribes in these three ethnic group that make up the country Nigeria will found out that there are different ways of dressing which equally shows the different tribes that exist within them.
Igbo attire
Hausa attire
Yoruba attire
The dressing culture says alot and directs one of the people you are with without asking of who they are or where they from.
Note: Those are modernize or re fashioned attire.
Dancing,festivals,Arts and craft:
This is another side of culture which automatically says it out louder and here gives you both the system of a tribe and equally says about their system of worship.
In the cultural dances, this goes with traditional music which is a combination of the vocal and instrumental artistry which produces a tuneful melody.
Musical instruments such as the gong, iar, leather drums, wooden drums, traditional flute the (Oja), earthen-pot drums and a host of percussion instruments abound.
Some famous traditional lit- music and dances which says more of people and their culture. which are shown in the picture below:
Nkponkiti dance
Koroso dance
Bata dance
Ohafia/Bende war dance
Nkponkiti/Atilogwu dance is associated to the igbo cultural dance which is found among the people of Anambra and Eungu state.
Koroso dance is associated or found in the northern part of Nigeria and is mostly found among the fulanis and in kano state.
Bata Dance which associated with San go, the god of thunder. It is mostly found among the yorubas.
Ohafia/Bende war dance is equally found among the igbos. It says of the bravery display of the people of ohafia during war.
I pen down here till i come back your way again with more on the topic "My culture, my heritage".
I still remain your little man @lapb....

Very interesting. Culture both defines us and helps us identify with ourselves and others. I love how you shared a part of yours.
Can I ask are any of these images yours?
