RE: Unexpected Pleasure, In the lift to the top of the tower

in #culture7 years ago (edited)

They say variety is the spice of life, @slowwalker, and your post underlines that truth.

It is always pleasant to experience a break from our usual routine and visit a magical place.

Normally, an elevator ride would not be exciting but the ride to the top of the Lotte Tower was made memorable by the impressive use of modern technology and digital displays.

It made me pause and think though. Your posts usually depict beautiful ornate paintings that have endured for centuries. What is the projected lifespan of this modern structure and how enduring are ephemeral digital displays?

I feel caught between the permanence of the past and the ephemeral and fleeting culture of the present.

South Korea typifies the world in transition from the quaint familiarity of traditional culture and values to a modern perspective that is sometimes startlingly strange.

I wonder how future generations will perceive us or if our culture will endure because it seems so perishable and impermanent when compared to the past.

Your simple elevator ride to the top of a modern structure was more than a pleasant diversion, @slowwalker - it raised questions in me about the truly enduring aspects of human society and the place of technology in our lives.

A thought-provoking post, my friend.
