Further Explanation
The adage was coined to remind bullies of what usually ends the life of evil doers. Gaa is a typical example of a tyrant, fearless evildoer who died a miserable death.
In 17th Century, Gaa was an Army General (Bashorun) under the rulership of King Labisi, who became so powerful, ruthless and uncontrollable. Gaa later killed the king and four other kings that succeeded the crown. When a new king, Alaafin Abiodun, came into power, Gaa killed his only daughter simply because the King’s daughter’s name is Agborin (Deer) and he needed a deer for ritual. King Abiodun was so heartbroken that he used all his resources to summon kings and armies of other kingdoms to defeat Gaa. Gaa’s entire family were wiped out and Gaa himself was slaughtered at the village square, each man slicing off a pound of flesh for the harm caused by the evil tyrant.
