AFRICAN CULTURAL FESTIVALS
Africa is a festival continent due to the various rich cultural backgrounds passed on generationally by our ancestors.
African cultural festivals are centered on religious, socio-economic political and cultural beliefs and values of a society.
During African cultural festival people far from their various return home to celebrate their family ties and reinforce the customs and values of the community.It is also a time of celebration filled with colorful displays, artifacts,music,and dance and plenty of feast.
African cultural festivals are ceremonies that serves as a means by which African ethnic groups or tribes appease their Creator, gods, and ancestral spirits of their dead rulers and ancestors by giving them offerings and thanks for both past and future sustenance.
African cultural festivals are basically ceremonies involving purification,drumming,dancing,singing,and recital of tribal histories in appreciation of what the gods and the spirits have done for the people in the community.This festivals helps to bring unity, peace and showcase to the world our unique way of life. Some of the festival celebrated in Africa are grouped into three main typed namely Harvest festival, Commemorative festival, and Festival for the gods.
HARVEST FESTIVAL
This Festivals are associated with primary agricultural occupation and harvest during which participating of the community sacrifice part of their first produce and other crops from their farms to their Creator, gods and ancestral spirits.
COMMEMORATIVE FESTIVAL
This is the type of African festival aimed at honoring the memory of the dead and giving of offering to the gods and ancestral spirits for their care, well-being,and protection towards the community members.
FESTIVAL FOR THE GODS
Festival for the gods is mostly the cultural festival celebrated by ethnic groups of a community to appreciate their ancestors and individuals who fought for their freedom. During this ceremonies libations are poured and animals are killed to honour and recognize their efforts.
