3 LATIN AMERICAN LEGENDS
3 LATIN AMERICAN LEGENDS
THE SAYONA
This is the legend that tells the appearance of an elegant and tall woman who punishes infidel men. It is native to the Venezuelan region of the plains.
Every time that woman appears, with a white bat and white hair, the lights fail. In the midst of the shadows she shows herself as a beautiful lady who captivates the men and then shows them her sharp teeth.
In life, this woman had a fit of jealousy and killed her husband. Now, seduce the infidel men with their apparent beauty and then murder them. If you feel sorry for them, you may just give them the fright of their lives.
THE SILBON
The Silbón is a legendary personage of Venezuela and Colombia, especially of Los Llanos; described as a soul in pain. The legend of the Silbón would have arisen in the middle of century XIX.
In the lands of Guanarito you hear the terrifying whistles that frighten even the strongest. When you hear close, it is far, and vice versa. The whistle is the most feared appearance of the Venezuelan plain, a tall and thin man of about six meters who was condemned by his own mother, after having killed his father and eaten his guts.
This supernatural man carries on his back a sac of bones, and he notices his arrival with the sound of the shock of the bones in the sack. If no one can hear it, it will charge a victim the next day.
LA LLORONA
This legend has spread to several countries in Latin America. It is a woman who loses her children and, turned into a soul in pain, seeks them in vain, disturbing with their tears those who hear. Although there are many versions of the story, the main facts are always the same.
The wrenching cry of this apparition disturbs Venezuelan savannahs. She is condemned to spend every night in pain for her children, whom she killed by mistake.
This woman knew that her husband deceived her with her own mother. In revenge, he locked her in the house and set her on fire, not realizing that her children were also inside. Another version reports that he drowned the little ones in a river, plunged in despair and madness in the face of infidelity.
Since then he has been chasing men. For whoever finds it, it becomes an omen of a terrible destiny.
