Bakya
Bakya is one of Philippines' folk dances. It can be performed by both boys and girls. But we decided to do it with all girl dancers. The dance is a mix of steps such as waltz, marching and skipping with a lot of turns that make us dizzy if we are not careful. Haha! Bakya actually means wooden slippers and is used all throughout the dance to create a rhythm by striking the bakya together.
This photo was taken during my friend's wedding when we danced bakya for the second time. The first was during my parents' silver wedding anniversary. Now we're doing it again after eight years. This time for my friend Gen's wedding as a part of the reception program.
