REMEMBERING BEHIND THE WORKS OF DAYAK CARVINGS

I used to think that carving is a stroke of ordinary image, which is important only the oreth of curved origin that's an engraving.

But the fact is, when I try to start making this work of carving itself it is not an easy thing, and we desperately need concentration, imagination, and pure thought, as opposed to painting and weaving.

In the painting if the brush strokes errors can be erased,
In weaving if there is a mistake of webbing, then the webbing can be unloaded and re-made
But carving with sculptures or knives on a wood can not be a mistake therefore at the time of starting the pattern of the picture alone we need time to think carefully about the motive and plot where the carving can be a perfect carving.

Many people do not understand carvings, and some people see the engraving as simply an ordinary work of abstraction, and some see only the elegance of a carving because of its subtlety without understanding its essence.

In the engraving there is a term "POWER PLANT" consisting of ROOT, BATANG, and DATABASE MAKING with the following meanings;
AKAR is termed as a sect or a group, BATANG is termed as unity or leadership, and DATED COULD be termed as marriage and fraternity.

In addition, in an engraving contained symbols of a group or in broad outline is called STRUCTURES SOCIAL person, usually can be seen in the tombs of Dayak tribe. And especially in public buildings such as Village Hall (SERAPOH in KAYAN) that look more identical to the symbols of leadership, unity, and brotherhood.

Engraving makes the DAYAK TRUST known to the world, and not just from the Mengayau tactics, and the dances alone.
For that I invite the young generation of Dayak tribe let us all learn to make a work of art like carving, or weaving in accordance with our respective expertise to preserve our culture, so that art culture is never broken in the future until the child our grandchildren can make it because of learning from us, and remember this is what makes us familiar with the world, and is the legacy of our ancestors that we need to keep fully.

"There is nothing we can not do if we want to learn, and there is no lesson that we hard to learn if there is our intention to want to know".
