Top 5: Fruit you never seen before
Born and stayed in Malaysia since young we tend to have a liking for strong tasting and smelling fruits. For foreigners especially those who never stayed in Asia before, tend to hate the smell and flavour of these fruits. These fruits we have here are only able to be found around Asia because of the weather, humidity and type of soil. Like all other fruits, some of the fruits here are seasonal. Anyway let's get to my top 5 favourite Malaysian fruits.
1) Durian
You may seen this before and hated it, it's the King of fruit. The flesh is full of mineral and calories. Not like any typical fruits it's soft , sweet and creamy and smells like rotten milk but the taste is milder than its smell.
2) papaya
If it's flesh is green, we usually use it for soup of as a salad, however the flavour is best when it's ripe. Texture is like mango but not so slimy. When it's ripe it turn sweet.
3) rambutan
It's like jelly but with a more chewy bite
4) mangosteen
Know as the queen of fruits, it's usually paired with durian. Pairing then together help balancing our body's chemical reaction. It's like mango but not as sour as mango.
5) Longan
Very sweet and juicy, texture resemble rambutan. It has a slight durian taste. Dried version is used in Chinese dessert soup.
