Making Rose Petal Jam & Jelly (Recipes & Canning Guide)


Often seen as beautiful, fragrant & merely ornamental, rose petals are overlooked when it comes to culinary use in the modern day kitchen.

If you look to the past however, roses were a much sought after ingredient in most kitchen and home apothecaries. It was once common place to find rose waters, extracts, syrups & tonics tucked away on pantry shelves.

I spend quite a bit of time creating beautiful culinary creations using both rose hips and rose petals. In this post you'll find two recipes: one for jam and the other jelly both which utilize rose petals. These are two of our favorite pantry staples and they make beautiful gifts. Rose Petal Jelly

Slightly floral and bright with lemon we love this jelly on hot buttered crumpets or scones. It is also quite lovely swirled over vanilla ice cream.

Strawberry Rose Petal Jam

This is my favorite jam. It is bright and tastes like summer in a jar. It also keeps its color and texture well and stores in the pantry for the winter quite beautifully. This is a great flavor combination for farm stands and farmers markets as well. Canning instructions are included.

These look so wonderful! I'd like the jam best too, I think. And Imagine, a recipe just when I have the ingredients to hand! It's to cool down on Sunday (currently hitting 90F) so making the jam is possible....

Hmmm, 3 day process, if I start them tomorrow, they'd be ready to process on Sunday....hmmmm.....

We have so few strawberries this year and I keep eating them all right in the garden! I wish we would have planted some more because I love them and I don't think the U-pick around here is organic. Did you get a chance to get some jam making in?

No, I remembered it, but there was just too many other things to do and it was mighty hot, 90'sF here... Maybe next year, and maybe in my new kitchen....

There are so many beautiful roses, I couldn't guess which would like your climate best. I love the rosa rugosa variety because they are repeat bloomers, fragrant and very cold hardy but my dream would be to grow the Damask rose, famous for its fragrance. (plus every other type of rose that exists). :)
