How an American citizen can travel to Cuba

in #cuba8 years ago

Are you interested in travelling to Cuba now that it is legal for US citizens to do so? If you do, there are a couple of things you need to know. First, you need to know that beginning this Fall 2016, American citizens will be legally able to travel to Cuba if the reason for their travel falls under these 12 categories:
Family visits; official business of the U.S. government, foreign governments, and certain intergovernmental organizations; journalistic activity; professional research and professional meetings; educational activities; religious activities; public performances, clinics, workshops, athletic and other competitions, and exhibitions; support for the Cuban people; humanitarian projects; activities of private foundations or research or educational institutes; exportation, importation, or transmission of information or informational materials; and certain authorized export transactions.
If you want to travel as an individual, it will be best if you consider travelling for the "Support for the Cuban people" category. Under this general permission, you will have to have a full schedule of activities designed to show your interaction with the Cuban people. These activities can range from attending Athletic competitions, Museums, taking Salsa lessons at an Academy, to giving lectures and spending time with Cubans in their everyday life. Please note that Americans are not allowed to Travel to Cuba as Tourists, so activities designed for tourists will not count within the scope of this schedule. The schedule of activities is required to be kept for up to 5 years after your trip.
