LOW COST SEQUENCING WITH BLOCKCHAIN
Who says cryptocurrency has no future? Listen to this, George Church, Ph.D., of Harvard Medical School, a startup co-founders has promised to offer low-cost sequencing of data that owners can store securely through the blockchain technology in exchange for earning cryptocurrency.
He is a co-founder of Nebula genomics and they are offering to carry out a whole-genome sequencing for as low as less than a thousand grand and exome sequencing for less than 300 bucks. This was revealed during launch in their whitepaper
“Genomic big data is projected to outgrow video and text data within the next few years,”
There would be company-generated “Nebula tokens” through with data providers are expected to buy personal genome sequencer. This would be possible through smart contact on the Etherum blockchain and can subsidize the cost of sequencing for individuals
The startup is promised to protect data privacy through encryption-based secure computing based on a digital decentralized blockchain. There will be anonymity for the data owners while buyers of data will requires transparency.
Another promise to this is that there will be subsidized data for academic buyers with its goal of promoting scientific advancement for all by supporting research for not-for-profit insitutions.
