Bringing the Steemit/Cryptos to the world of sports?

in #cryptos7 years ago (edited)

I am just doing a bit of thinking out loud here, and I am no expert on the cryptos, but a way of introducing this potentially revolutionary new wave of commerce and monetary transactions to a wider audience could be through high level sports! I realise there are many ways, however bike racing is very close to my heart as I have raced at a professional level for the better part of 10 years now, and one thing that has always been a drag on every team I have ever raced for, and also every other team in the paddock is funding.

They say its tough at the top, and it really is, but not just for the athletes, but also for the teams. Running a world class racing team, whether it be motocross, road racing, or Formula 1, is a full time, maximum expense operation. Motocross is most certainly a sport where you can get more bang for your buck as sponsor. Putting £20k into a World championship motocross team would get you some pretty good exposure as a sponsor with a brand/product, or if you are just an individual with some interest in helping a World Championship racing team, then you can have some pretty good VIP treatment for that kind of money. Formula 1 however, well unfortunately your 20k would probably do well to cover a set of tyres for a weekend. Now I'm not saying this idea wouldn't apply to the F1 scene too, but a lot more money could flow into the motocross scene if there was a cheap and easy way to become a sponsor of a team.

My idea would consist of an almost crowd funding aspect to the sponsoring of a team. The massive articulated trucks that are on display in the paddocks all over the world could have a sizeable Bitcoin/Ether address barcode along side their title sponsors, and the public that walk around the track could essentially donate money to their favourite teams. Now I realise this is such a small market at the moment and the majority of people walking round the paddock would probably not have Bitcoin/Ether wallets on their phones, but there is the potential for this to grow. Advertising on the likes of Steemit for teams and Riders promoting sponsorship for their teams could result in a big increase of at least awareness, then probably an increase in usage. This would not be revolutionary to the Bitcoin world now that it is reaching a $100bln market cap, but it would help the teams and riders. It would also maybe get teams putting on more of a show in the paddocks to attract potential donations, then that would liven up the pits a bit and benefit the promoters and just make the whole experience that bit more exciting.

Th anonymity of the cryptos would obviously prevent teams and people from knowing who has donated and who's hasn't which I guess would be a draw back for teams being able to offer thanks to individuals. But they could have draws that give out souvenirs like signed riders jerseys and helmets etc for random donors that have donated over certain amount, say £10 or something, which could be seen by the team boss or the person overseeing it by the crypto address that is alongside the transaction, then matched up to the persons phone who has donated etc. I don't know, I'm just spitballing here lol. Like I said, I am far from an expert on the malleability of the cryptos and how something like that could be introduced, but I'm sure I'm on to something in one form or another. I just think if one team were to adopt it in a big way, then others would have to follow suit. It would only be small amounts of funds being donated obviously, but with the tens of thousands of people attending and watching live on T.V and following the sport each weekend, then there is the potential for those small funds to add up and really help a team/riders out.

Often the big teams in the paddock look like they are flush with cash and have unlimited budgets. Well often that isn't the case, in fact in nearly every instance that is not the case. To do the job properly for both the riders and the teams is tough, time consuming and expensive. I don't know if anything I have just said could in any way bring a little extra revenue to the teams so they can pay the bills to put on the best show they can for the crowds and fans around the world, but I'm sure because the crypto world is a growing space and also more aligned with the younger generations there may be some way to incorporate this exciting new technology into the world of motorsport. Or any sport for that matter.

Anyway, that was just my thoughts. What are yours??? Apply it to you own favourite sports or events and tell me if you think it can work. Also, if you know of anywhere this is already being done, i'd love to know about it!

Cheers
