Joseph Stiglitz: "cryptocurrencies don't serve any socially useful function"

Do you agree with Nobel Prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz when he says that "cryptocurrency is successful only because it is not regulated and helps circumvent existing law (...) It doesn’t serve any socially useful function, he said. For me this discussion was already solved when  Adam Smith explained the most remarkable features of a currency: the value-in-use and value-in-exchange.

The value in-use is still in an early estage, since there are way too many digital currencies and few retailers agree upon which one to broadly accept.

But the value in-exchange! Holy me! There is this miriad of startups and ICOs who only share participation through this digital markets.
