🗞 Bitcoin Price Jumps 10% on Anniversary of All-Time High

Bitcoin (BTC) could be in for a stronger recovery rally ahead of New Year as the recent major sell-off looks to be fading.

The leading cryptocurrency by market value had been trading near $3,200 early yesterday, representing an 83 percent drop from the record high of $20,000 reached the same date in 2017.

However, BTC, which had been ignoring extreme oversold conditions for weeks and struggling to pick up a bid, suddenly jumped to an eight-day high of $3,590 from around 12:00 UTC. As of writing, the cryptocurrency is changing hands at $3,450 on Bitstamp.

🗞 Amazon Plays Its Own Game With Enterprise Blockchain

Amazon Web Services, the e-commerce giant’s cloud computing arm, is having its proverbial blockchain cake and eating it, too.

In late November, AWS unveiled a new service during its re:Invest event that lets clients build their own cloud-based blockchains, using Hyperledger Fabric or ethereum as templates for such projects.

That announcement was the next step in a long-running process that has seen the cloud giant continuing to dip its toes ever-deeper into the blockchain pond. Previously, AWS showed its hand by striking partnerships with firms like bank-backed startup R3 and, later, the ConsenSys-tied Kaleido. With Amazon Managed Blockchain, AWS was clearly trying to take that one step further – but at the same time, the cloud services company isn’t making any claims that all of its clients will benefit from using blockchain.

🗞 Blockstream Launches 5th Satellite Streaming Bitcoin Blockchain From Space

Blockchain development firm Blockstream has expanded its satellite service and is now broadcasting the Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain to all of Earth’s major land masses, Forbes reported Dec. 17.

The wider coverage — which comes via the addition of a fifth leased satellite — brings potential internet-free Bitcoin transactions and information sharing to crypto users in the Asia Pacific region. The satellite service, still in beta, had hitherto already been available across Africa, Europe, South and North America.

A Chinese Government-Controlled Bitcoin Alternative Is Reportedly in the Works

In the midst of a sino-U.S. trade war, the People’s Bank of China is working to develop its own cryptocurrency prototype. It apparently believes this centralized digital asset can ultimately trump BTC and perhaps even the U.S. Dollar.

"President Trump is promoting an ‘America first’ policy, so you cannot rely on America to keep its borders open for trade, or to rely on it to support the World Trade Organization or the International Monetary Fund. So you can understand why countries are looking for substitutes … In a world of fracturing of multilateral order, countries will be looking to reduce their dependence on the US."

The STEEM is following the BTC but as usual with a smaller move. We just broke the first resistance line but we are still very far from the second one in orange. I don't expect we will be able to reach that second orange one. I think we will stay just around that line that we broke and start a new drop if the BTC is correcting.

    hahaha! Agreed. I almost burned in a missclick that I made yesterday. Instead of 1x I was 20x leveraged, almost had a heart attack. But I got out with 1% profit total... hahahaha!
