Asimov's Ghost - Chapter 46 - Insanity Realm
They had been standing there for what seemed like hours, but he didn’t feel fatigue, not in his body anyway, but his mind was spinning. In many ways the story Jemima had told him was completely unbelievable, on one hand he had no reason to trust her, to believe her.
On the other hand the way she spoke reminded him of Amorphia, the way she hid meaning in an enveloping cloud of similes and theologies, never seeming to quite get to the point while at the same time giving you the whole story. Jemima was Amorphia, or at the very least a copy of her, that much he knew.
“So the Qblock is suffused with the mind of a mad genius, to the point whereby you can’t tell it apart from him; and Amorphia new all of this?”
“Yes, of course.”
“Then why didn’t she just tell me as much?”
Jemima didn’t feel like it was time to answer K-Rox’s question truthly, he needed to know more first.
“I guess she felt like you wouldn’t have been able to handle the truth”
“Hmm, okay, you mentioned others.”
“Huh? Oh right yeah, others, it wasn’t just Gladstone who uploaded to the cloud, many more went with him, they called themselves the Illuminated Ones, though there is no evidence of individual identities being kept.
Anyway, as I said Gladstone and the others saw it as the only way to keep power, after the innovations that quantum computing and the Qblock had started to make their impact on society, it seemed as if it may have drifted into an economical nirvana, one whereby we simply stopped spending money.
Technology even a hundred and fifty years ago was sufficiently advanced that all of society’s basic needs were cared for in an automated, unsupervised manner. Men like Gladstone knew that in order for them to remain in power, they had to keep a reason to spend money, without money they would no longer be rich. Without their riches, it is doubtful they would have held onto their power, rather than try and stop the inexorable march of technological progress, they instead decided, why stop something you can become?
It is not just a few decades a couple of hundred years ago that is being edited, it is every day on Earth via empLink transmissions in your Nplants. Gladstone and the rest, The Illuminated Ones are present in your neural links, that’s why aZorl wanted you to QSID to Mars, that way you couldn’t be tracked by them.”
“Does aZorl work with them?”
“No, he actually used to work with us, but aZorl is hard to explain, let’s just say for now he is a freelancer. However I’m sure you’re more interested in who Isaac.Asimov is, am I right?”

Nice. Now I am beginning to understand what is going on here. I have always wondered about aZorl. But who was Jemima taking orders from?
I am still remembering Jemima saying some chapters ago that K-Rox shouldn't even trust her. So in a sense, the entire conversation could still be a hoax driven by vested interests by Jemima. In such a plot full of twists and personal agendas surely anything is possible, and I am still guessing that the end won't be a happy end ;)
