Right now at this very moment as you read this you may not be fully aware how centralized the internet and our data is fast becoming. Your data and our internet is so centralized that every keystroke you make and document you download is owned and passed through systems that only care about how they can make money off of your work. Lets face it, if they can centralize and control something now a days, they will and will not stop if profits are concerned.
The HTTP protocol we are all used to using has long served its purpose. It got us here and gave us a new open way to communicate worldwide and for that we should all be very thankful. The time though is coming where we may need to begin to move onto better ways to transmit and receive our important data and thankfully due to the blockchain revolution a savior has come in the form of IPFS (InterPlanetary File System).
IPFS was brought to us by Juan Benet who is a Stanford University graduate with a degree in computer science. His vision was to create a faster more reliable internet with decentralized roots. We can almost view IPFS as a mix of peer to peer sharing like torrents but with no need for central servers to get the task done. To get speed, IPFS will network devices together to serve files and from locations closer to your device in order to deliver on a more instantaneous speed. This has been tried and tested well at this stage so major IPFS gits are growing and we look to have a new internet in town.
Due to the nature of this system, its also nicknamed the Permanent Web, one main reason....just like blockchain technology, IPFS will be able to hash content on the web and ever increase its life within its system on a very permanent content share basis. Less worries of accidental server crash wipes and a more secure robust system for the world to entrust.
Why the Need for a Decentralized Web
The internet was originally meant to be given to the world freely and for a very long time it was a haven in its own right as a decentralized system that gave opportunity to all. This is why the Google's of the world came about and small businesses flourished so well in the early on adoption days of the internet but as things go and the way the system was set up it was bound to get centralized control.
The internet of 2017 does not look the same. Major corporations own a big chunk of the servers that your data passes through, many are beginning to censor websites and charge for services that honestly should be free. Its just become a mess in the centralized way of doing things and its time we return back to our roots of decentralized free world usage of how we network with our computers.
VISIO and IPFS Building on The Decentralized Web of Hope
Visio has learned along the way the serious need for decentralizing how content is stored and shared. This is why we are building our system through the IPFS protocol because this is where the world will head and we want to deliver content created by hard working souls to the world on their own terms. Through IPFS its all possible, we can literally turn the world of users into a decentralized data center and use Visio as a platform to host those amazing content hashes to the public. There is a lot going on with IPFS and what the core team in Visio has in store for the world, key ingredient is giving users back their individual freedoms to host and share their content as they see fit. We are just the tool of decentralization, the user is the top guy in how they want to provide their creations to the world.
We are honored to live in a time like this, where we can take the human race on a more moral and less controlled technological system that will empower every man and woman that uses our system and the IPFS protocol bound within it. Thanks to the amazing team at IPFS we can regain back our internet the way it was intended, for them we are grateful and for our Visio users we are proud to keep at this for you because you deserve only the best tools place in your own hands!
Looks like a cool project. I just think we have way too many platforms these days- I can't keep track! Like old media like FB, twitter, youtube and then all these new platforms like Steem, Minds and Visio etc.
I am just starting to use onG.Social as it acts as a hub to all your media accounts. I hope they will integrate Visio...
I will bring this up to the team and have them look more into onG to see how it might fit. Thing is though, Visio isn't going to be a social media platform, the concept is a little past what even Youtube is. Basically Visio is a tool, a decentralized hub for musicians....filmmakers...video bloggers, ect. Its also going to be a massive storage hub built within its own blockchain through masternodes so content creators will simply feed the content, build their own home base to share their content and earn with ad overlays or donations through bounty systems. Not sure how well that would form fit with onG because it will be more a network vs a central point as it grows. We will look into it though and see if it can mesh as an option. The Visio concept is not like what anyone has seen yet...its building on the IPFS protocol and opening the doors as a blockchain to let content creators have free creative reign to use it as they see fit. We believe as the usage grows it will become many different things and just be the engine running the system underneath how people share
Sounds very interesting. I definitely believe there is room for Visio to work with onG.social. Currently onG has plans to integrate Golem and StorjX (I believe MaidSafe as well) into their algorythm. With more projects converging in one place I can only see how each and everyone will benefit from such integration.
I agree with you. Too many platforms to keep a track of it. I have following ONG social for some time now. The project is backed by IBM. Also it is decentralised. Content creators need worry about being blocked. The best feature is u can handle multiple account from one account ie ONG social. The ICO is coming mid aug. Looks interesting to me
Visio will rise soon!! I'm glad to be already in! Just reading the whitepaper made me realize this will be the next YouTube, but better. Like Steemit is better than Facebook or Reddit.
That and much much more. I view it mostly as a new kind of networking engine, will have its hub center for content sharing but more or less a decentralized tool that content creators use. They build on the blockchain and can cut out having to form fit to a centralized platform and build their own.
