The rules of a portfolio tracking

Hi.

Starting today, i am going to show you how to a paper trading and how to backtrack a portifolio.

As an example, i am going to use the predictions of the Technical Analyst that i mentioned on my last post, who goes by the username of Haejin.

For this, i am going to do both things:

1 - The paper portifolio.

This paper portifolio Will start with a $100,000.00 value assigned, wich will be the reference equity to evaluate how profitable is his advice.

What i noticed is that some of haejin posts have price targets, while others don't. So, to establish an exit point of the operation, only advices that have target prices will be considered, because those advices that don't have a clear indication of price predictions can't be measured.

I will start with the predictions that were posted at the beggining of this week (03/05) until today, and updating the portfolio everyday with the predictions of the day before.

The rules of entering and exiting an operation will be:

  • When Haejin predicts that a coin price will increase, i open a position with the value of $1,000.00. The price used will be the close price of the day, using the timeframe provided by the website tradingview.com
  • When Haejin predicts that a coin price will go down, i will close any position on that coin that is open. I won't open short positions, because there is no good way yet to do it, besides with bitcoin.
  • If there is two target prices on the prediction, i will close half the position at the first target, and other half on the next target.
  • I won't consider trading fees, because even though they are importante and should always be considered on trading operations, this could make the calculations a bit more complicated.
  • Most of the times, Haejin doesn't seem to set a date limit to the operation, but we can't hold the coins forever (specially if they go down), because they may go to zero, or even stop being traded at all.
  • If there is a prediction of a coin traded with BTC, i will use the $1,000.00 to buy BTC, then buy the coin. If that position is closed, i will revert the operation back to dollars, or else the results might be affected by BTC/USD price.

Special Note:

He seems to make predictions pairing some coins with USD that are not traded in any exchange against USD (they are only traded against BTC). While this doesn't make sense at all, because there is no CFDs, ETFs, or Futures contracts to be traded on the cryptocurrencies markets, i will follow his advice as he states, just as a matter of simplicity.

But remember that if a coin is not trated against USD, BTC prices will have a huge influence on the price movements, since to plot a COIN/USD graph, the COIN is converted to BTC and then to USD.

2 - The backtracking

I will create another portfolio, using the same rules above, and also with $100,000.00 of starting equity.

But i will start the tracking at 01/01/2018, trying to update a full week on that, for when we reach the date of 03/05, we put together both portfolios.

That way we will have a Year to Date performance of Haejin.

For now, these are the rules. If you have any suggestions, please write it on the comments.

See you around.
