Good Question!

The only app that in the article that would allow you to trade would be Coinbase, it's a good starting place if you don't have any experience trading on a platform/exchange. If you do then there are other places that allow you to do such things such as Poloniex, Bittrex, Bitfinex, Binance, etc.

The other apps that are listed are merely for communications, news, and tracking.

I would agree mostly that trading via mobile can be a little dicey, however, if you've got to start somewhere, I'd start with this set of apps since all of them are free to download. If you do choose to trade via mobile device then I'd recommend enabling advanced profiles in your settings for the accounts as well as make sure your phone is protected via advanced security measures and software...also probably would be useful to turn off bluetooth and airdrop.

If you're concerned that you'll get hacked, or something of that nature I'd encourage you to enable 2 factor authentication and also have a wallet storage separate from the exchange so that the currencies you trade aren't left on an exchange. Digital wallets like MyEtherWallet (ERC20 tokens), Exodus (various highly traded coins). Or hardware wallets such as Trezor.

Hope that answered your questions!
