Why I think Substratum is bullshit, and why you probably will too?
Substratum, and its shills want you to believe that their token setup will decentralize the internet, when in reality, the only way you could actually do this, is by replacing the hardware infrastructure, like towers, cables, modems, and routers.
A glorified virtual private network, which all Substratum actually is, can still just easily be shutdown by the big 3 like AT&T and Verizon any damn time they please, because they still own all the internet feeds that go into your homes.
So all this hullabaloo of Substratum decentralizing the internet is all bullshit, so please don't believe all these paid shills on Reddit and YouTube attempting to tell you otherwise, because anyone with a brain could see that this project is just a fake dream, taped together with a bunch of feel good buzz words.
Thanks for the tip @talkatore
The pleasure is all mine, and thanks for the read.
As I understand, Substratum functions like a decentralised VPN. If they achieve to encrypt all communication and there's no way for the Verizon's of this world to distinguish Substratum traffic from normal web traffic, there's nothing they can do against it. Short of cutting the internet service you pay for.
The problem with centralised VPN's is your sensitive browsing data is stored in a company which can be shut down or snooped upon.
The problem with Tor is your internet traffic goes through 6 nodes before reaching the destination website, which makes it inherently slow.
Substratum, maidsafe and others could be a great inbetween solution. It can work as privacy enhancing and decentralised web when they achieve to make the internet traffic unreadable, unchangeable and keep it fast.
Maybe big words, but their project is nonetheless interesting as an alternative to the current VPN services.
How so?
By multiplying the nodes and giving incentives to create more.
For instance, in countries with high level of censorship, TOR is slow or inaccessible due to the large number of persons willing to use it.
The government could still shut down the feeds, so I think they are mis-leading people.
Nice post
