We need new trading pairs

Almost every exchange trades in BTC, ETH, or Tether pairs. It is no wonder that when Bitcoin decides to stop moving sideways that the altcoin markets tank across the board.

Am I wrong in thinking that once more exchanges get the volume they need and offer more trading pairs, that this will be much less of a problem? I heard the new Stellar/FairX exchange could help with this, but I suppose time will tell.
