I find it highly suspect that such large sums were not kept in cold storage. Given the history of massive hacks in the crypto space, it's inexcusable that any exchange these days would allow hackers to remove such large sums from hot wallets.
Either this was gross incompetence, or the hackers and the exchange operators are linked in some way.
