The main problem for bitcoins massadaption is the negative reputation it already has for the masses. Everytime they hear about these viruses, hacks and criminals, bitcoin is involved.

In the opposite Ether, with its brillant name (the fifth element!!) and a clean reputation on the masses. That is why I believe, Ethereum will take place as massadaption and not bitcoin.

With it slowness and technical issues, it could be kind of a storage, like gold, but not for massadoption for purchasing anyhing in shops etc
