The problem now is we have so many alt-coins, each with their own merits. Indeed Steem is a fantastic Alt-coin, but until Crypto becomes totally mainstream, or overtakes fiat currency, it's hard to see anything catching Bitcoin. Long term things may be very different of course!
Bitcoin needs to fix the capacity issue and the high fees. At the moment I won't use Bitcoin for small transactions. Instead I use LiteCoin and Superiorcoin. I keep Bitcoin as a store of wealth.
Absolutely, they don't seem to want to address the issue that it just doesn't make sense for smaller transactions. To be a real universal currency it needs to be able to replace fiat - ie free transactions like Steem! Not to mention the speed, it's no wonder Litecoin had shot up recently or that there's so much interest in IOTA!
I've been following @maarnio and his crypto contests. He talks about the alt coins and usually has a video. I have not learned a lot, but I do now realize that these coins can represent anything!
