China throwing weight behind blockchain
Recent research study, conducted by WIPO data, shows that while China though being overtly strict against decentralized cryptocurrencies, is welcoming the underlying technology: Blockchain.
The study shows that Chinese e-commerce biggie Alibaba and U.S. tech company IBM currently rank first and second, in terms of Blockchain technology patents filed. Alibaba has as many as 90 filed patents whereas IBM running it neck and neck at 89.
To illustrate this fact, the most number of Blockchain-related patents filed in 2017 came from China, with 225 filed patents during 2017 itself. China’s 225 filed patents was followed by the United States who came ina distanct second with 91 filed patents. Australia is even further in third, totaling 13 filed patents in 2017.
This information was made public on August 31st. The contents of the research occurred through the month of August, 2018, and involved data collection from China, the EU, America, Japan, South Korea, and the International Patent System from the World Intellectual Property Organization.
haha not surprising they try to ban it and then accept it all. Why do you think China was blocking exchanges and forced Binance to move out, then back it?
Its still a nascent market . Most countries are still trying to get their head around the concept of using cryptocurrencies . The market definitely needs some regulation (not draconian laws ) to prevent it looking like a ponzi scheme from the outside. Also its not only China. Even India , Korea have been flip-flopping on crypto adoption.
