The Award for Most Underwhelming Announcement Goes to...

For those of you who aren't fully up to date with the whole fanfare which has surrounded the cryptocurrency, Verge (XVG), over the past few weeks let me fill you in. Not too long ago the creators of the highly debated cryptocurrency, Verge, took to their social media channels to announce that they have a "massive" announcement which will lead to "mass adoption" of their privacy oriented cryptocurrency.

To add to their announcement of an announcement the development team of Verge went ahead and asked their community to make a donation, in order for the team to pay for technological upgrades to their system. That is right, a company with a marketcap (at the time) of over half a BILLION dollars was asking its investors for donations, essentially running a crowd funding campaign.

So, what happened as a result of the Verge team asking for donations? The Verge community donated over 75 million XVG tokens worth roughly $4.5 million, in just four days, in the hope of receiving some ground breaking news which would change the face of the cryptocurrency industry as a whole, and pave the way for mass adoption.

As you would expect, after all the commotion and promotion from the XVG team, the community of XVG holders were anxiously waiting for the news which was going to change all their live's, and cryptocurrency, forever. What they got in return was quite the opposite of that.

The news that underwhelmed an entire industry

So, the half a billion dollar company had successfully managed to squeeze roughly four and a half million dollars from its community of people who had ALREADY INVESTED to deliver what can only be described as what it quite possibly the most underwhelming partnership which has ever been announced: XVG is now being accepted on Porn Hub.

Yup, that is right, the news which will change the face of crypto forever is basically that people can pay for a service, which the majority of people stream for free, with a privacy oriented cryptocurrency that isn't all that private.

It might sound a bit cynical but, honestly, PAYING for PORN is going to be what makes crypto? Pull the other one. Since the announcement some members of the community have been stating facts like "porn is what made the internet", which is true. However, it was FREE porn which made the internet.

After all the buildup and hype for this announcement, which lead investors to further invest in the company, the Verge team may as well have simply announced that they have signed a partnership with Mother Nature allowing them to voluntarily pay the ocean for swimming in it. It really is that trivial.

As if to add insult to injury, in order to actually use the XVG payment option on the Porn Hub website you have to already have a working knowledge of cryptocurrencies, exchanges, fiat to crypto pairs, wallets, private keys and public addresses. Something the average person will see and instantly think "sod that, I'll just use my credit card" if they ever were considering paying for the streaming of something they can get for free from the website they are already viewing.

While I may get a lot of stick from the Verge community for posting this I feel it is something which needs to be said, and a line needs to be drawn so that other developers do not get any funny ideas as a result of this. As a community the entirety of the cryptoverse needs to unite to show XVG that this behaviour is not ok and that we will not stand for it.

Mass adoption still awaits.
