If You Can't Fight 'em, Join 'em! Salon offers ads or Bitcoin mining

Recently there has been a lot of headlines in the crypto news about Coinhive and programs like it that have been mining crypto on the sly. Even YouTube users have been affected without their knowledge. But there is good news; now you will have the option of whether you would like to opt in or not. I guess this is better than not having the choice! At least Salon gives you the option of benefitting from using your extra computing power!

If you log onto Salon with an Ad blocker running you get a message that explains that they have ads in order to keep their content free to the user, but they offer you the option of having the ads suppressed. You can mine Bitcoin for them!

It was just matter of time before some enterprising exec was going to figure out a way to make some money off of mining the general public!
