Not so long ago (on 12 May 2017), there has been reports based on a computer-based attack which targeted various organisations in a form of a virus, whereby this virus takes all of the files of a computer and then ransom will be demanded for the recovery of the files. This is referred to as the WannaCry / WannaCrypt ransommware attack.

According to Source:
This is what the virus does: "RansomWare like WannaCry works by encrypting most or even all of the files on a user’s computer. Then, the software demands that a ransom be paid in order to have the files decrypted. In the case of WannaCry specifically, the software demands that the victim pays a ransom of $300 in bitcoins at the time of infection. If the user doesn’t pay the ransom without three days, the amount doubles to $600. After seven days without payment, WannaCry will delete all of the encrypted files and all data will be lost."

This attack has been specifically known to attack Microsoft OS-based systems and Microsoft has released a security update, particularly for computers/systems running Windows XP, Windows 8, or Windows Server 2003. Microsoft Download Page For Security Updates

I cannot really suggest the best Anti-Virus to combat such, but I hope that efforts to eradicate such are a success, as innocent people get caught in between. Let crypto be used for good.
