MediBloc: Healthcare Experience Reinvented

in #cryptocurrency6 years ago (edited)

The primary function of medical institutions is to save and preserve lives. Medical institutions play a huge role in the scheme of things. In order for them to be able to carry out their duties more efficiently, individuals, hospitals and other institutions in the industry should be able to have access to patient’s data instantly, where permitted, seeing patients lives might depend on this, and the difference between life and death could be a few seconds. Hence, every second gained is important.

The structure as we have it today, isn’t built with the interest of the patients at its core, rather that of the institutions. MediBloc cares about this-the interest of the people, and is taken the status quo head on.

According to IBM & Ponemon, data breaches in the medical industry out ranked surveyed industries checked. This translated to a loss of $380 per person and was 2.5 times higher than the global average across industries.

MediBloc’s solution was orginally based on the Qtum blockchain (Qtum was used because it offers flexibility in selecting what is most suitable), but the team has decided to build its own blockchain. This means that it will be more secure, transparent and have much more efficient processes. This solution ensures that patients have control over how their data is shared, used and gotten. Medical institutions and other stakeholders in the industry can take advantage of this platform to gather data they need for research or other purposes. Patients will be able to participate in different activities such as surveys and also decide to share information in exchange for rewards. The key point is that sharing information will be of their own voluntary will, and they will get the benefit of doing that, not another party selling off this same information for a myriad of reasons, financial being chief of them.

SOME ADVANTAGES

  • Digitisation of data makes access more difficult for those with ulterior motives.
  • Management systems compatibility issues are resolved.
  • Patients will no longer have to repeat processes that have been carried out before, thus ensuring that time, money and energy is better conserved.
  • Government bottlenecks are done away with.
  • Patients can get the rewards they deserve for sharing information they choose to share and also by co-operating with researchers.
  • Data access is now without boundaries. Round the clock access is granted.
  • Falsification of data is checkmated, and insurance companies can breathe easily.

    FEATURES OF MEDIBLOC
Super Security: Speaking for myself, I don’t think anyone knows how to take care of me, better than myself. MediBloc ensures that the interests of patients are best served, by putting the power of the people in their own hands. It’s common for private patient data to be leaked from within by anyone, for any purpose.
The blockchain offers higher levels of security, and patients will be able to access, decrypt and gain access to their information, when the need arises. This will ensure that only those the user gives authorisation to, will have access to his/her file. In so doing, chances of getting information leaked is reduced, and in the situation there is a leak, it becomes very easy to pinpoint the defaulting party.

24/7 Reliability: MediBloc ensures that patients data is backed up regularly. This data is stored in decentralised storage locations. Data is also always verified and compared with backed up data, when modulations are surfaced. This mitigates against altering of data or even erasing of it by users. Only verified medical professionals are allowed to have access, to ensure that information contained within the database is reliable and always authentic.

Extremely Transparent: The blockchain ensures that the digital footprints of everyone is out in the open. For anyone that has read/write access to data in any way, MediBloc ensures that these are recorded. This is much more difficult in the traditional setting. This also ensures that patients data cannot be exploited for research or financial gain by institutions.

Interoperability: MediBloc supports multiple formats in which data can be viewed in. It also supports different applications that can be connected to one another, via the information within the platform. API’s/SDK’s will also be provided by MediBloc, to ensure that there are no stumbling blocks. Being open source, it also enables anyone with the necessary skillset to develop code that supports more formats.

Superb Accessibility: Using the internet, users can access their information anywhere and anytime, without government bottlenecks. Institutions will no longer need to be relied upon, especially in situations it is a matter of life and death.

Patient centered: Patient Generated Health Record (PGHR) can be created by patients. This, along with healthcare data created by medical institutions can all be stored on MediBloc. This can be called up to cater to medical care for patients, as well as opting into medical services they find beneficial.

PARTS OF MEDIBLOC’s INFRASTRUCTURE
MediBloc is made up of three layers, namely:

The Core: This deals with the interaction between the blockchain and the data network. This layer is an encrypted database. Data within is secured by a private key, which only the owner of the data can decrypt. It also has a backup system to enable recovery, if the need arises.

Service Layer: This connects the Application layer to the core layer. This is where data indexing, exchange of tokens for services, and identification occurs. Smart contracts are used in achieving these. Costs are reduced by ensuring that data storage on the blockchain is minimised.

MediBloc Application: This is what enables users to be able to take advantage of MediBloc’s services. Data Exchange, Automated Insurance claims (thanks to smart contracts) and health reports are all viewed/used, by making use of the Applications developed using the API/SDK provided by MediBloc, or their own native application.

Just to be clear, the three types of information held by MediBloc are Medi tokens Balance, Personal Information and healthcare related data.

MediBloc also supports the creation of three types of accounts on its platform. They are accounts for General Users, Medical Practitioners and Data Researchers. How they can use the platform and how it can be beneficial to them can be seen in the diagram below.

MediBloc will support the management of users data by another user when consent is given. This will come in handy in emergencies, when data needs to be accessed quickly. When patients give researchers access to their data for research purposes, they get rewarded as a result of this. Opting in is optional.

Personal devices will be used to store data primarily, while also being backed up in MediBloc’s core. Intel’s Software Guard Extensions (SGX) will be used to ensure that data cannot be accessed by unauthorised individuals. Sensitive data will be saved in “enclave”, thus drastically reducing the risk of data leakage.
elegant-1769669_1280.png
The primary way value is transferred on the platform with the use of Medi token (MED), which is an ERC20 token. It is transferable and tradable. On the other hand, Medi Point (MP) can only be used within the platform. This measures participation within the platform and cannot be exchanged. It makes use of a reputation system to rank users. In the case of Medical Practitioners however, it isn’t a measure of how professional or how skilled they are.

Both MED and MP can be used as a form of payment, within the platform.
As a result of bulding their own blockchain, MEDX tokens came to the fore. As a result of this, during the ongoing airdrop, holders of MED are being airdropped MEDX tokens also. They will have the same value, once MainNet launches.

MP’s collected can be converted to Medi tokens after a three month period. Conversion rates aren’t fixed, so data will be provided in real-time. MP’s will disappear after a 24 month period, in order to prevent inflation. It could also be used in the Peer-2-Peer verification process.

Kindly see the distribution of Medi tokens below.

USE CASE SCENARIO
Dre is a quinquagenarian, and tries his best to keep fit. One day he suddenly collapses, and the Medics need to have access to his medical history as soon as possible. Dre has given his wife consent to be able to access his data, incase of emergencies. Seeing this data can be accessed from anywhere using the internet, she is able to provide the required data before she runs to be at the side of her husband.

With the help of MediBloc, they are able to file insurance claims to offset some of the costs involved, and will not have to run from one point to another, seeing everything is located in a central location and is also automated.

When Dre gets better, he can make use of his information to create improved eating habit templates, specifically tailored to his needs.

His data can also be used in the area of Artificial intelligence, to create smart devices that help to monitor his vitals, where necessary. Developers will also be able to access his information if he so chooses, and where necessary. When researchers need to study cases similar to what Dre went through as well, he will be able opt in and be rewarded financially. He doesn’t only get financial benefit, he also helps to create solutions that can be applied to improve the lives of individuals across the globe.

Dre could also decide to opt into being part of testing solutions that have been created as a result of these researches and studies carried out.

These are some of the benefits researchers, insurers and those in the medical field also stand to gain-having everything they need in one location to carry our surveys, research or test breakthrough drugs/techniques.

Dre/those nominated by him having full control over his data ensures that solutions to ailments can be proffered as soon as possible, and ensure that lives will be saved.

This by proxy applies to all individuals, and leads to more efficient processes, safety of users medical records, and other stakeholders having access to users in one place, without the bottlenecks in the traditional setting.

Getting medical records on-chian ensures that users medical data is better protected, not forgetting that they are also backed up. This will ensure that stories of medical records being accessed without permission, hacked or lost will become a thing of the past.

It will also enhance cohesion between stakeholders, and ensure that the process of transferring information isn’t as stressful as it is now, if at all accessible.

Losses will be massively reduced, and this will translate to more value for parties involved in the chain.

MediBloc’s solution is user focused to a large extent, and this will ensure that users can get information anywhere in the world at anytime. Thousands of lives around the world might just depend on this.

These highlight the advantages of digital data storage over traditional storage options.

SUMMARY

image (4).png

Having partnerships with medical institutions such as Hanyang University Medical Centre, Coinrail, Deloitte, Welt and Kyung Hee University Dental Hospital already helps to validate MediBloc’s value proposition, and shows that it is a solution that answers a lot of questions as well as fill a number of gaps in the industry. This also creates a market that is ready to go live immediately, and also ensures that value is added to all stakeholders sooner rather than later.

When other parties notice that the solution is effective, this will ensure that more institutions around the world come on board.

Good things take time. This is a solution without borders that will have global impact, eventually. I'll like to see MediBloc identify more key value partners, not necessarily medical institutions in other parts of the world, in order to scale up rapidly, globally.
