Social Media, Privacy, Facebook vs Steemit, And Dating

Just read an article here:

It was a very interesting read about the ambitions of Mark Zuckerberg for facebook in 2018. There's talk of facebook entering the cryptocurrency and blockchain market.

Is this exciting news? Depends on who you ask. I will tell you Yes and No.

Yes for the adoption of the blockchain technology and cryptocurrency but No for who's behind it.

Privately, I've always told others that it will be the end for facebook when they get around to paying people for their user generated content. They will offer to pay as a last ditch effort to stem the tide of people leaving. Every day, more and more are becoming conscious of their privacy and in valuing it curtail their sharing to sharing less. Eventually, as in my case this will go from sharing less to not sharing at all.

Facebook has left many with a bad taste in their mouths due to multiple privacy violations and outright abuse with their social experiments. I would also add for those who enjoy news and information, their constant tweaking of the news feed algorithm which has now been weaponized to filter and censor content that doesn't align with their agenda is one more straw too many.

For the record, I do not get news from facebook. I like to gather my news outside of facebook. It does not interest me to know what my friends are reading about as I have interest of my own and follow them. Facebook's constant steering and manipulation are also huge turn offs and like any conscientious objector, I do not agree and therefore do not use.

I propose that the only way for facebook to keep people on it's platform from this point forward, is to pay them to stay there. I think it's a little late as I see the trend of more people leaving.

As for dating, facebook is no different than older messenger services as it's not specifically geared for dating but can be a highly effective tool for arranging dates and meeting new people. I don't have a problem with this. What I do have a problem with is the cyber stalking nature of data that facebook makes publicly available for those curious to know certain things about you.

Too many stories of crimes today involve data gathered off social media and used against the victim.

If you check out the video's on The Slackers Method YouTube Channel here:

https://www.youtube.com/user/theslackersmethod

You will learn about all the information that can be gathered and used against and offered suggestions for how to prevent it being used for malicious purposes from revenge porn to fake ads sending random men to your door step. The information is unisex and intended for both men and women.

This type of information is only for those who value their privacy that Facebook and Google have undermined for their own gain.

As for Facebook vs Steemit, I'm here on Steemit and see the potential for more growth on this platform. I just hope that through it's changes and updates (which I expect) it can learn from facebook's shortcomings and use them to it's advantage!

What are your thoughts about this, anything you'd like to add?
