Has anyone gotten rich mining bitcoins?
A number of questions on this site ask whether it's possible to make money mining bitcoins and the expected profits. However, I'd like to know if there are real-life stories of people becoming wealthy solely from mining bitcoins.
It seems like mining bitcoins is, at best, a hobby that cannot make someone wealthy.
It isn't possible to get rich anymore without a 6 figure investment and very cheap electricity.
But you are asking if it has happened, and sure, when the mining difficulty was such that even low end computers could solo mine and get good results and the block reward was 50 bitcoins. There are lots of people who saved thousands of bitcoins from the early days and today are multi millionaires.
If you were mining 4-6 years ago, and held onto 100 or more, you'd be rich-ish now. I am sure there are a handful of people who did that. You won't get rich from it now unless BTC spikes to $20k and you save til then, then sell.
