Here's My Top 5 Cryptocurrencies I'm Holding Right Now. What's Yours?

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago

With hundreds of different cryptocurrencies out there, I'm sure we all have different top 5's. I've been following Bitcoin specifically since around 2011 and saw it spike in 2013, kicking myself for not jumping on board. However after it fell back down and had a quiet few years, I ended up totally forgetting about it to be honest.

That was until this summer when it really started to boom, along with many other coins. After sitting on the sidelines for too long, I decided to jump in and invested around $1000 into different coins.

After hours and hours of research, watching countless videos and watching the market, I decided to invest in 5 coins. It's important to note that while I did invest in each coin with the hopes of making a nice return on my investment in the future, I also opted for coins who's technology I liked.

Here's the five I went for:

MONERO (XMR)

I feel that Monero is a pretty safe coin to hold, especially with privacy coins expected to surge in popularity over the coming years and Monero is probably the top dog right now when it comes to privacy. I bought in at around the $100 mark so am happy with my investment and is a coin I plan to HODL and see where it goes.

NAV Coin (NAV)

NAV was actually the first coin I invested in. I came across it on Coinmarketcap when it was booming and did a little research. I liked a lot of the features that the team had planned and from having a look around, seems to have a very solid community and most importantly, development team. Bought in around $1.30 so again, another HODL coin. Will hopefully see a nice return if the developers can deliver on their roadmap but felt that it was worth investing in at that price. Personally, anything under $2 is a good buy for NAV.

ARK (ARK)

I went into ARK a bit blind to be honest. I had seen it mentioned a lot, especially on Reddit and with pretty much everything being positive, I decided to purchase some. Wasn't a massive investment but I'm glad I invested in it after looking into more deeply. I feel that ARK's smart bridge could be a potential game changer for the future. Looking to HODL this coin until it reaches the $10 or $20 mark perhaps, although not anytime soon.

Vertcoin (VERT)

VERT is an undervalued coin in my opinion and am definitely hopeful that it will see some big gains over the coming months and years. The fact that it's an anti ASIC coin is very appealing. Add in the work it's doing with Litecoin and Atomic swapping and I can really see VERT returning a healthy profit.

Verge (XVG)

Verge is a super cheap which means it's actually price per coin probably won't ever reach anything over $0.20, but as it is currently priced at under a cent a coin, grabbing a few thousand, if not tens of thousands of Verge coins could definitely give a very nice return. The Wraith protocol could be a huge moment in deciding where exactly Verge sits in comparison to other coins so waiting to see how the market reacts before deciding to HODL or sell my Verge coins.

What's your Top 5 cryptocurrencies you're holding right now? Feel free to let me know what you think of my investment too!

Sort:

Was looking into Lisk but decided against it due to the amount of other coins I'm into right now. Definitely one to keep an eye out for! Solid top 5.

My long term holdings:

  1. Ehtereum,
  2. Litecoin,
  3. Bitcoin,
  4. Dash,
  5. Ripple.

They are pretty much in order by size of my holdings.

Solid selections! I started looking into Dash and then it took off :(

Agree, very solid selection there. Can't go wrong with the big boys really

My top 5:

  1. Bitcoin- Grand-daddy of all coins
  2. Ethereum- Smart Contract and many new coins are based on its platform
  3. Steemit- you know why if you are here. LOL
  4. TokenCard- A digital debit card that use Ethereum smart contract but run through Visa payment system
  5. Potcoin- Who doesn't like pot

Interesting list you got there, TokenCard and Potcoin are the two I know literally nothing about :P

I'm sure Steemit would be in my top 5 list but I've only just got started but definitely liking what I'm seeing so far. The key will be mass adoption but I can't see why in the future it can't really take off.

Yeah, a combination of safer and pure speculation plays in my crypto holdings. Since, there are way too many cryptocurrency available in the market, I strongly believe that most beginners should consider Bitcoin and Ethereum as their biggest holding instead of others as no doubt in my mind that most of them will eventually fail like most startups do. Don't get me wrong, I am a big believer that blockchain is the future, but I also believe only a handful of cryptocurrency will success in the future. Of cos, if you are like me, want to buy a lottery ticket (like early Bitcoin stage), free feel to speculate some new coins. But don't bet your shirt on it as it is very risky. Anyway, If you also believe in blockchain, check out IBM as it has been investing heavily into this technology.

By the way, my main purpose of buying cryptocurrency is to hedge against a collapse of physical paper currency (mainly US dollar and Euro). I treat cyrptocrrency (again mainly Bitcoin and Ethereum) as a digital form of Gold/Silver.

Nice top 5. Monero will be big in the next few years. Under 16 mil circulating. Just got into ARK last week and have heard good things about NAV.

Long term holds:

  1. Ethereum - Great future
  2. NEO - Bought low. Good future but the China situation mucks this up a bit.
  3. Bancor - Unique platform that keeps adding clients.
  4. Stratis - Platform. Working with Azure and others.
  5. TenX - Crypto credit card + mobile app

I mined a bunch 'o VERT and DASH (back when it was DarkCoin) but VERT never really went anywhere. It was the first implementation of stealth addresses, though, which is a pretty cool feature that ended up in bitcoin proper!

Bitcoin is still the gold standard but the anoncoins are exceedingly necessary. Monero seems to have the best governance model but yikes, have you seen the traceability rate? From a study at the University of Illinois:

ZCash and CloakCoin look really interesting, though. Have you looked into those?
