Streamity ICO Review

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago (edited)

Whilst cryptocurrencies are decentralised the process of exchanging them for other cryptocurrencies or fiat currency relies on highly centralised online services. These services are not easy to use, they are expensive and they are highly vulnerable to attacks.

Getting started with cryptocurrencies is a mind boggling process, there’s so much to get your head around, wallets, public keys, private keys and of course the biggest question, what’s a good coin to buy. But once you’ve figured out what coins you want to buy you then have to figure out how to get hold of them. There are thousands of coins and tokens, if you want a diverse portfolio or cryptocurrencies you will have to join five to ten exchanges like Binance or Bittrex.

A better process is needed to make it easier, more secure and to cut down the fees. Steamity plans to do all of this and provide a portal with analytical, educational and investment resources. It will pay contributors as well, which is an additional bonus. But before I go into why I'm very positive on the Streamity ICO lets go over the problems with existing centralised exchanges.

User friendliness - There ain't none

You have to be really motivated to get invest in crypto currencies, and thats a shame because it means that people who want to don’t because of time constraints or that its just to hard to understand. Its why Coinbase is so popular, you create an account, go to the currency you want put in the amount you want and click buy. Its simple to use but you pay for that with high fees and there is a limited amount of coins you can buy.

Another option is an exchange like Bittrex or Binance. They have a large selection of coins and tokens. You can wire money from your bank to an exchange like this but the easiest thing to do is to buy some Bitcoin or Ethereum on Coinbase then deposit it on the exchange. Once you do that you will probably have to watch a few youtube videos so you can understand how to navigate a page like this.

When you've got head ahead all that (doesn't take too long) you can then deposit your coins in your wallet. The whole process could take an hour as you have to wait for deposits to be confirmed. There is a fee at pretty much every step of the process.

How Streamity will revolutionise this process
Pairing yourself with someone who wants to buy your coins with fiat currency through an easy to use mobile interface is a much simpler and quicker process. It also means you don’t have to first buy a trading pair (usually Bitcoin or Ether) to then buy a token like Pillar token for example. You will be able to trade the Pillar token (I'm assuming tokens like Pillar will be available on the platform) directly and make an instantaneous transaction. This will greatly reduce the headache and lower the fees.

There aren't any screenshots or information about how the Streamdesk platform will work so I'm assuming it will be well made and thoroughly tested for user friendliness.

What good is it if you can’t spend it

What good are cryptocurrencies if you can’t spend them? With so few merchants accepting payment in crypto the only way to spend your investment is sell your coins on and exchange then wire the pounds, dollars or euros to your bank account. Bare in mind there is a fee for the exchange to sell your coins, there is a withdrawal fee, there is a remitters bank charge and hopefully you will get a good exchange rate.

It can take three days for the funds to be credited in your bank account which is medieval compared to the 20 minutes or so it takes to send and receive Bitcoin. Some exchanges have a maximum daily withdrawal limit so you it might take longer if you have a large amount. This can be a real headache for businesses that have done an ICO and collected Bitcoin and Ethereum and need to pay for staff and services in Fiat.

Selling some Bitcoin and wiring it to your bank account is not a good enough solution for day to day use. There are payment cards on the way like TenX and Centra so you can spend your cryptocurrency like you would a debit or credit card but that still leaves a gap for those that want to instantly exchange their cryptocurrency and get money in their bank account.

This a problem that Steamity aims to solve by making it easy and secure for someone to sell or buy large or small amounts of cryptocurrency with fiat. The cryptocurrency gets held in escrow and is secured by a smart contract. Once the fiat is transferred the smart contract deposits the cryptocurrency and both seller and buyer complete an instantaneous transaction. This video will explain how the process works.

This outlines the advantages Streamity has over its competitors

Power and corruption

Centralised exchanges are really large corporations and act accordingly. They have the power to dictate the market and we have trust they will do the right thing. At the moment there is no other option, an improvement is really needed. Here are two recent examples.

Why I'm bullish on the Streamity ICO

There are no high quality, easy to use platforms for buying and selling cryptocurrences currently, so this ICO presents a fantastic opportunity. Its like the web 15 years ago. Hard to use, not very popular. Once it became quicker and easier to use it got almost instantly adopted. Imagine a world without the web now. It couldn't function.

Using smart contracts is more efficient and more secure and that is really needed in this space. It cuts out the middleman and makes it easier to buy or sell small and large sums of cryptocurrency with fiat. Streamity represents a revolution in buying and selling crypto that could encourage the masses into the space. If it does the price of STM tokens will go rise dramatically, giving you a fantastic return on your investment.

A platform like this is good for crypto in general because the space needs more people to keep growing. That will not happen with the current processes, they're for not good enough and only attract a niche set of investors.
