I understand your point. But I am saying that the if we have invested just 10$ on each of the 100 top currencies of Coinmarketcap on January 1st 2017, the value today will be almost 1000$ only.

That statistic is showing an investment made on 01. January 2018, not 2017. Anyways I wouldn´t want to handle 100 different coins after all. The exchange fees would eat up all your profits after all.
